Sandro Tonali to Tottenham is now a done deal.
Tottenham Hotspur are moving quite aggressively in the transfer market this summer, and we can see that in the fact that Roberto De Zerbi has already concluded four transfers in the early weeks of the ongoing off-season.
Spurs compound on midfield revamp
And to add a cherry on top of those four concluded moves, Tottenham have already agreed on an £85m move with recently relegated West Ham, which will see the Lilywhites sign Mateus Fernandes.
With the Portuguese midfielder having one leg through the doors at Hotspur Way, Spurs are not sitting quite, but instead they are compounding on this momentum to secure themselves another marquee midfielder.
With Fernandes, Tottenham also made an expected move to bring Sandro Tonali to N17 this summer, with the Italian international keen to honour his word to De Zerbi despite Arsenal and Manchester City interest.
Tottenham have already agreed on a £12m-a-year contract with Tonali. But to add to it, Spurs are also apparently open to meeting the three-figure pricing point that the Magpies have tagged him with.
Any move worth around £100m will see a substantial amount of it being dedicated to his boyhood clubs.
Tottenham can save Brescia Calcio with Tonali transfer
Brescia Calcio (the club where Tonali spent the initial years of his career before moving to AC Milan in 2021) is currently fighting for its survival not just from a league but instead as an institution as a whole. They were excluded from playing in Italy’s third tier in the 2025/26 campaign after they were not able to pay off their debts, which stood at €1.1 million. (h/t Sport Witness)
Adding to that, Brescia Calcio also couldn’t pay salaries of their playing and non-playing staff, which added to owner Massimo Cellino’s increasingly desperate attempts to hold the club together.
And according to a recent report from BresciaToday, the Biancazzurri have been granted federal status for the upcoming 2026/27 season. This will allow them to keep the club in administration without actually guaranteeing competitive football.
But all of this could be resolved by the €100 million or so that Tottenham are expected to pay for Tonali. Many reports claim that Brescia’s share of that fee would be something around €3 million, which can comfortably resolve their debt problems and keep them afloat.
This is no longer about signing a marquee midfielder, it is also about channelling enough money to a dying Italian club to potentially prevent it from disappearing forever.
