Tottenham have ‘Here We Go’ sealed for Sandro Tonali.
Roberto De Zerbi is leading a major change at Hotspur Way this summer, and that is seen in the aggression that the Lilywhites are showing in their transfer business. Tottenham Hotspur have already concluded deals for four players in the opening weeks of the window.
But the highlight of this summer revamp is not the incomings but the outgoings instead. While there are a fair share of players on that shipping list, one player who has been surprisingly linked with a Hotspur Way exit is Lucas Bergvall.
Bergvall is one of the better young players on the books at Tottenham, but he has been looking for a move away as he looks to continue his development at a club where he can get consistent game time.

Given that Tottenham have just agreed on a deal to bring Mateus Fernandes to Hotspur Way and are already also pursuing a move to bring Tonali to N17, the game time at the Swede’s disposal will continue to reduce, especially given that you’d expect both the aforementioned new signings to start alongside a creative engine, viz., James Maddison or Xavi Simons (once fit).
And that is where Bergvall being sold becomes a real possibility.
John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, insists that Tottenham can easily get back around £50m of the £85m they paid to West Ham for Mateus Fernandes and the £92.5m Spurs are expected to fork out for Tonali if they are to sell Bergvall this summer. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, he said:
“I think Lucas Bergvall will leave Tottenham. I think he’ll have a fantastic career. We’re probably going to have to drop £85million each if we are to sign Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
“I think we’ll recover between 40 and 45 million, maybe even £50m, on Bergvall. I could see the link to Nottingham Forest happening.
Forest are getting big money for Elliot Anderson, and then they can pay half that fee, or maybe a little bit under half that fee, to get Bergvall through the door.”
Tottenham need to be smart with the Bergvall exit
While Bergvall is expected to leave this summer, given how inflated the current market is when it comes to midfielders, Tottenham need to use that to leverage a mega-money deal for the Swedish midfielder.
Let’s face it, Bergvall is one of the more promising talents at N17, and he is only being sold because he wants to pursue a move to be at a club where he can find more game time. But that does not mean to sell him for the first offer coming your way.
The Lilywhites had always been a smart-selling club under Daniel Levy, and now it is time that Vinai and Johan Lange replicate that stubbornness when it comes to selling Bergvall.
