Tottenham are keen to add more depth to their attack during the ongoing summer transfer window.
Tottenham are wasting no time in the transfer window as the club looks to back Roberto de Zerbi ahead of the new season. The Lilywhites are determined to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of the Premier League table during the upcoming campaign. As a result, the Lewis family have put their money where their mouth is by bringing in several much-needed reinforcements to strengthen the squad.
The North Londoners have already signed five players during the transfer window, with their latest addition being Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United. Much to the surprise of many supporters, Spurs have already broken their transfer record by spending £85m on the Portuguese international. Even if only for a short period, Fernandes is set to become the club’s most expensive signing before the Lilywhites complete the expected move for Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali in a deal worth around £100m.
This demonstrates Spurs’ determination to make amends for last season’s disappointing campaign and re-establish themselves as a top-six club in the Premier League. With the club having already strengthened both their defence and midfield, attention must now turn to the final third, where the Lilywhites are in desperate need of a versatile attacker capable of playing across the frontline.
Tottenham are urged to land West Ham star Jarrod Bowen this summer
It comes as no surprise that Tottenham are looking to add another attacking option capable of providing a different dimension in the final third. Recent reports have linked the Lilywhites with 23 G/A West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen. The England international is keen to remain in the top flight following the Hammers’ relegation and is therefore expected to seek a move elsewhere this summer. However, West Ham are only willing to part ways with the 29-year-old if their £50m valuation is met in the coming weeks.
John Wenham has now urged Spurs to act quickly and sign Jarrod Bowen this summer as the club looks to strengthen its attack. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,
“He needs to move for his own career – he’s too good for the Championship. Yeah, absolutely I would take him at Spurs. It wouldn’t be a punt – he would start for us at right-wing. He would 100 per cent start for us and be good and be a guarantee of goals. I would 100 per cent take him. He would be one of our main goalscorers. He’d solve the issue we have in that Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons, when he is fit, do not score enough goals.”
As Wenham points out, Jarrod Bowen would likely be an immediate starter for Spurs on the right wing, potentially displacing Mathys Tel from the starting eleven. The England international is a clinical finisher and could form a formidable partnership with Dominic Solanke in the final third. In addition, the 29-year-old’s versatility would provide valuable cover across the frontline, particularly given Solanke’s recent injury record. As a result, signing a player of Bowen’s calibre would appear to be a logical move for the North Londoners.
The biggest obstacle to a potential deal could be Everton’s interest in the prolific attacker. Recent reports suggest that David Moyes is eager to reunite with Jarrod Bowen and has already contacted the 29-year-old in an attempt to convince him to join the Hill Dickinson Stadium club. It is also claimed that the England international remains open to a move to the Toffees, with the opportunity to work under Moyes again being one of the key reasons he is leaning towards a switch to Merseyside.
