Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe, responding to fan concerns on X in the early hours of Sunday morning, confirmed the deal is fully in place. Asked why the announcement had not yet come through despite the transfer being agreed days ago, O’Keefe was straightforward: “Everything is ready to go. Just have to be patient.” In a follow-up reply he added: “There is a reason but nothing to worry about.”
The deal itself has been in the public domain since Wednesday, July 2, when Fabrizio Romano posted his “here we go” confirmation, shortly followed by David Ornstein at The Athletic clarifying the full fee structure. Tottenham agreed a package of £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in achievable add-ons to sign the 26-year-old from Newcastle, taking the total to £100 million and breaking the club record they had set just 24 hours earlier with the £85 million arrival of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham.

Tonali was spotted at Milan airport on Thursday as he flew to London to undergo his medical, and spoke to Sky in Italy on his way through. He was candid about Roberto De Zerbi’s role in the move. “De Zerbi played a huge role in this decision,” he said. “He deserves a lot of the credit.” He also cited a family reason, with his son having been born last year prompting a desire for a fresh start.
On what to expect from him at Spurs, Tonali was measured: “We have to take everything slowly, starting with the pre-season training camp.” The announcement, whenever it formally comes, is a formality. This one is done.
