Tottenham have started shifting out deadwood from Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.
Tottenham Hotspur have been extremely active since the start of the summer. They have already announced five signings, two of which are central defenders Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.
Marcos Senesi has been snapped up on a free transfer from Bournemouth, while Spurs paid £52m to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. These two deals have pushed a couple of central defenders down the pecking order. One of those is Radu Dragusin.
Radu Dragusin endured a difficult 2025/26 season in North London. The defender struggled for game time after recovering from an ACL injury, limiting him to just five Premier League starts. Those starts, however, did not come under De Zerbi. With the player and his camp unhappy with the lack of game time, several clubs from Serie A have been showing an interest in the Romanian international in the last few months.
Radu Dragusin set to travel to Fiorentina for medical tests
Fiorentina Sporting Director Fabio Paratici has been eyeing a move for Dragusin. It was Paratici who first brought the 24-year-old to Tottenham from Genoa, and it looks like the Italian has played a major role in luring him back to Italy.
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, Fiorentina has agreed to take Dragusin on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy. The Serie A side have agreed terms based on a €1.5 million paid loan, with the obligatory purchase at the end of the season set at €17.5 million. The central defender will travel to Florence early next week for a medical.
Dragusin’s time in the Premier League proved harder than expected. He never really managed to establish himself in Tottenham’s first XI, while a serious knee injury disrupted his progress and limited his minutes in 2025. A move to Fiorentina should give the towering Romanian a chance to resurrect his career. Having progressed from Juventus’ youth ranks before making a name for himself in Genoa, he should ideally not have problems in hitting the ground running in Florence.
Florian Manea, Dragusin’s agent, admitted earlier this summer that talks would need to be held with Spurs to find out their plans for his client. Following recent transfer developments, it became clear Dragusin was available for transfer. Fiorentina have won the race for his signature, with Paratici wanting the Tottenham man to bolster the team’s defensive unit for the 2026/27 season. The loan-with-obligation structure means La Viola have committed to a permanent transfer of the Bucharest-born talent contingent on the loan running its course.
Hopefully, Dragusin’s potential exit kickstarts a fire sale of the fringe players at the club.
