Tottenham could raid the Ligue 1 market to solve their goalscoring woes.
Tottenham Hotspur have already completed six deals in this transfer window, bringing in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali, in a splurge of close to £240m to rebuild the squad that narrowly beat relegation.
The north Londoners are now preparing to improve their forward line ahead of the new campaign. Plans are being accelerated, with several players targeted. Spurs are eager to add a No.9 to improve their goal tally, having struggled to produce the goods consistently during the 2025/26 campaign. Dominic Solanke spent large chunks of the campaign sidelined with an ankle injury, while Randal Kolo Muani proved to be a poor signing on loan from PSG.
Richarlison shouldered the goalscoring responsibility, netting 12 times in all competitions. However, wary of Richarlison’s inconsistency and injury issues, he simply cannot be relied upon to score goals freely for the second straight campaign. Tottenham learn asking price of AS Monaco striker
Tottenham have been showing an interest in signing AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun. The 25-year-old recently became a centre of controversy for having his red card vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina rescinded by FIFA at the World Cup. This saw him start for the USMNT against Belgium in the last 16.
Folarin Balogun played 90 minutes, as the USA were thrashed 4-1 by Belgium and dumped out of the World Cup. The centre-forward ended the showpiece event with three goals in four games, which has enhanced his reputation across Europe and beyond. Spurs aren’t the only club interested in the AS Monaco star; he is also tracked by Chelsea and PSG.
Now, according to a report from Football Insider, AS Monaco have set a £43million valuation on Balogun amid interest from several clubs. The French club are happy to let him go for this price tag, and the centre-forward is believed to be keen on a return to the Premier League.
A product of the Arsenal youth system, the Brooklyn-born talent failed to make the grade, and after loans with Middlesbrough and Reims, he joined Monaco in 2023. Balogun headed to the World Cup off the back of a productive campaign at the Principality Stadium, where he netted 19 goals in all competitions. He also has Champions League experience under his belt, scoring five times in the elite European competition last term.
After leaving Arsenal, the USA star has consistently found the back of the net in Ligue 1. He has proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer and could be a shrewd acquisition for De Zerbi’s side. Interestingly, in 2024, Balogun admitted he was close to joining Tottenham before deciding to become a part of the Gunners’ academy.
This means Spurs have maintained a long-standing interest in him, and having seen the striker develop well in Ligue 1, our club bosses may decide to go for Balogun to solve the goalscoring woes.
