Tottenham have intensified their efforts to sign AC Milan star.
Tottenham Hotspur have loosened their purse strings this summer, putting together a record spend of more than £230million, signing Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke among others.
Spurs are backing Roberto De Zerbi in the transfer window to take the club back into European qualification contention next season. A big spend is obviously going to be required to make that happen after back-to-back bottom-half finishes, and the club’s owners are living up to their promises on that front.
Tottenham want to recruit wingers and a striker to improve their productivity next season. The Lilywhites are reportedly interested in signing AC Milan star Rafael Leao. The Portuguese international has made it clear that he wants to leave AC Milan after seven seasons for a new adventure. The Rossoneri want €60-70m to let him depart this summer.
Tottenham fix meeting with AC Milan and Rafael Leao’s agents
Spurs seem to be intensifying their efforts to sign Rafael Leao. According to Italian journalist Fabio Gatto on X, a meeting has been scheduled for this week between Tottenham, Leao’s agents Jorge Mendes and Gerry Cardinale, and AC Milan, to get a deal done.
The 27-year-old, who recently represented Portugal at the FIFA World Cup, has entered the final two years of his contract at the San Siro. He has emerged as one of the Lilywhites’ top targets to fortify the wide areas of the pitch, and going by the club’s actions in recent days, it looks like we are serious about getting a deal for the player over the line.
Leao ready to say ‘Yes’ to Tottenham project
It has also come to light that Leao sees the Premier League as his ideal destination. If Spurs can reach a financial agreement with Milan, he will say ‘yes’ to De Zerbi’s project.
Spurs are determined to inject pace, trickery, flair and goals from wide areas, Leao ticks all those boxes. The N17 chiefs have done extensive groundwork on the Portuguese star, positioning themselves seemingly as the frontrunners. The move for the Milan man underlines Tottenham’s unyielding focus on rebuilding their frontline into a dynamic, quick and fluid unit under De Zerbi.
At 27, Leao is at the peak of his powers and has the required qualities to make an immediate impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if a move materialises. That said, fans will be keen to know the details and outcome of the meeting between our club, the player’s agents and Milan later this week.
