Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin has joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan.
Tottenham Hotspur are having a dream summer transfer window so far. Roberto De Zerbi has managed to reinforce his defensive and midfield options in the opening weeks of the summer transfer window.
Now, the attention has turned towards adding quality attackers to De Zerbi’s squad. Simultaneously, the N17 chiefs have also started moving on players surplus to the gaffer’s requirements. Radu Dragusin became the first high-profile departure earlier this week, joining Fiorentina on loan for the 2026/27 season. The deal also includes an obligation for the Serie A club to buy the central defender if specific performance-based conditions are met.
Radu Dragusin arrived at Spurs from Genoa in January 2024 and has made 48 appearances for the club. The Romanian international sustained an ACL injury in January 2025 and returned to action in late December. He struggled for game time, featuring only 11 times last season.
Former Italy defender praises Fiorentina for signing Radu Dragusin
Following the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi in June, Dragusin had slipped down the pecking order. As a result, he had made up his mind to leave the North London club. Fiorentina have been interested in the 24-year-old for months, with sporting director Fabio Paratici pushing for his signature.
Eventually, Fiorentina have succeeded in signing Dragusin on a season-long loan from Spurs. The hulky Romanian remains highly rated in Italian football due to his previous allegiances with Juventus, Sampdoria, Salernitana and Genoa.
Now, former Italy defender Marco Lanna has praised Fiorentina for capturing Dragusin’s services. He believes La Viola are the ideal club for the Bucharest native to reinvigorate his career, backing the defender to flourish under Paolo Vanoli.
“He’s a player with tremendous physical attributes,” Marco Lanna told Radio Firenze Viola.
“He’s tall, but also quick and powerful, and he’s exceptionally strong from a muscular standpoint. Back then, I used to tell him that he did everything well, only to make mistakes in the simplest situations. But in one-on-one duels and marking, he has always been outstanding.
“Over the years, he has improved as well, and Tottenham invested heavily in him. I believe Florence could be the perfect place for him to relaunch his career at the highest level and fulfil the potential he has always shown.
“It will be an excellent signing.”
Dragusin will thrive at Fiorentina
Dragusin made his name for himself in Serie A with Genoa. This prompted Spurs to invest in him in 2024, although the move did not quite work out for both parties.
Now, the defender has a great chance to showcase his talent and prove himself again in Florence. The slower-paced and tactical football in Serie A should suit the defender’s playing style. Fiorentina’s willingness to assess the financial and technical conditions required to crack a deal shows how highly they rate the former Juventus youngster.
From Tottenham’s perspective, Dragusin’s temporary departure has freed up wages and squad space, allowing De Zerbi to fill it by promoting an academy talent. The chiefs at Hotspur Way will hope the Romanian international flourishes at Artemio Franchi Stadium and fulfils the criteria required to make his loan a permanent deal.
