Tottenham have been linked with a move for Sevilla defender.
Tottenham Hotspur have had some rare success in the market of late, switching their focus to ensure a chunk of their business involves proven Premier League players. Such signings never come cheap, but there is less gamble.
Spurs’ entire summer transfer business so far have been recruits from different Premier League and Championship clubs. One position the club bosses decided to add more depth to is the left-back. Despite bringing in Souza from Santos in the winter transfer window to compete and cover for Destiny Udogie, the Lilywhites snapped up Andy Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool last month.
Robertson is expected to provide back-up to Udogie next season, with Souza primed to go out on loan. Despite the presence of three left-backs, the Lilywhites are now linked with another one.
Tottenham interested in Sevilla left-back
According to a report from Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Sevilla left-back Joaquin Oso. Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are also in the frame.
Joaquin Oso enjoyed his breakout season at Sevilla last term, playing 21 times in La Liga. He chipped in with two goals and three assists, and delivered some impressive performances. It was enough to catch the eye of Premier League, Spanish and Serie A clubs.
The Spaniard has entered the final year of his contract, and Sevilla are keen on extending it. But the La Liga club are finding his agent’s demand too high, which has stalled contract negotiations. As a result, the report adds that the Andalusian outfit have given Oso an ultimatum that he either renews immediately or gets sold. If the negotiations are not back on track, they would listen to offers for the 23-year-old starting at €10m.
Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have made approaches to Sevilla over Oso’s signing. Spurs, meanwhile, are monitoring the Spaniard’s situation in Seville, but it is unlikely we will make a move for him. This is purely because Roberto De Zerbi is stacked in the left-back position. Even if Souza departs in the near future, De Zerbi will have Udogie and Robertson to compete for the first XI spot. Also, Tottenham’s transfer priorities have now shifted to adding quality to the forward areas of the pitch.
