Tottenham youngster called up to South Korea’s Under-23 squad for Asian Games.
Tottenham Hotspur have raised eyebrows with their summer transfer business, signing as many as six players thus far. Roberto De Zerbi should be a very happy man with how the club’s hierarchy have backed him in the transfer market.
Spurs begin their pre-season on July 10, and some new signings will be available to participate in the upcoming friendlies. As many as 15 players are expected to report for pre-season later this week, including new signings Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Martin Dubravka. The players who have featured at the ongoing World Cup will not be available for now, while stars such as Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski remain sidelined with injury problems.
Several players who went out on loan should be a part of De Zerbi’s squad from the start of the pre-season. One of those will be Yang Min-hyeok. The youngster had joined Coventry City on loan in the winter transfer window after spending the first half of the last season at Portsmouth, where he scored three goals in 16 games. However, he played only four times for Coventry City as they secured promotion to the Premier League after 25 long years.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Yang Min-hyeok named in South Korea’s squad for Asian Games
Yang Min-hyeok is expected to be a part of the Tottenham group that returns for pre-season on Friday, having not been picked in the South Korea squad for the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Interestingly, Tottenham have now confirmed that Yang has been called up to the South Korean Under-23s squad for the Asian Games. The tournament in Japan will be held from September 15 to October 3. This means the 20-year-old could miss two to three weeks of action if South Korea goes deep in the Asian Games.
However, Yang’s availability is unlikely to affect De Zerbi’s Spurs, as the chances of the winger staying at the club this summer appear slim. He is expected to be loaned out again, perhaps this time in a European league. The North Londoners’ decision to cut short his loan at Portsmouth, recall him in January and send him to Coventry City for the remainder of the campaign turned out to be an awful decision.
The South Korean talent struggled for minutes under Frank Lampard at Coventry, so our board must carefully consider all options and pick the best loan destination for Yang this time around to aid his development.
