PSG open to offers for their 18-year-old forward amid Tottenham interest

Tottenham are scouring the Ligue 1 market to improve their attacking ranks.

Tottenham Hotspur have been making waves in the summer transfer window, putting together a record spend of more than £230million. They have smashed the transfer record twice in a week with the acquisitions of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, whilst Jan Paul van Hecke has also arrived in a £52m deal from Brighton and Hove Albion.

A big spend is obviously going to be required to make Spurs competitive again in the Premier League after back-to-back bottom-half finishes, and the club’s owners are living up to their promises on that front. Tottenham want to recruit wingers and a striker to improve their productivity next season. Barcelona’s Ferran Torres is the latest name to be linked with a move to White Hart Lane. The Spaniard is valued at €35m, as Barcelona look to balance their books after the signing of Anthony Gordon and the impending arrival of Borussia Dortmund attacker Karim Adeyemi.

In addition to Torres, Spurs are also keeping tabs on another versatile winger.

Paris Saint-Germain open to offers for highly-rated winger amid Tottenham interest

Recent reports have indicated that Tottenham are closely following Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye. A product of the Paris Saint-Germain academy, the teenager broke into the senior side in the 2024/25 season. He played 23 times across all competitions for PSG last season and was recently part of the Senegal squad at the World Cup.

Having been in and out of Luis Enrique’s side, Ibrahim Mbaye is worried about his lack of game time next season amid PSG’s pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. As a result, he wants to leave his boyhood club for regular playing opportunities, sparking interest from several clubs across Europe.

Now, according to a report from TEAMtalk, PSG are ready to let Mbaye leave this summer. The French champions rate the 18-year-old extremely highly but are realistic about his first-team prospects following the presence of several elite attacking talents. The club officials internally accept that they may not be able to offer the Senegalese the regular first-team opportunities he is seeking at this developmental stage of his career, and are thus open to listening to offers.

As Les Parisians believe in Mbaye’s long-term potential, they are not actively pushing him towards the exit and would want to include a sell-on clause on any deal. The former France youth international’s possible availability has put Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa, Brighton, Leeds United, Bournemouth, Everton and Newcastle United on red alert, the report adds.

Should Spurs make an offer for Mbaye?

Mbaye wants consistent senior football next season to continue his development. Spurs have shown an interest in the player after likely being impressed by his speed, technique, direct running, and dribbling. The Senegalese international’s ability to operate across the frontline adds more value to his name, but the Lilywhites do have a player of similar profile in their squad.

Signed from Bayern Munich on a permanent deal last summer after his loan spell in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, Mathys Tel was starved of regular opportunities before De Zerbi’s arrival. Following serious knee injuries to Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert, the Frenchman managed to get a consistent run of games in the side, and he will expect a prominent role in De Zerbi’s first XI next season.

Acquiring the services of Mbaye would hamper Tel’s development and block his minutes. What Tottenham need is an experienced left-winger from whom Tel can learn the trade and sharpen his skills. That said, the North Londoners must avoid signing the PSG starlet.
