Tottenham could raid the Portuguese market to add to their wide department.
Tottenham Hotspur have been backing Roberto De Zerbi wholeheartedly in the transfer market. Since the start of June, we have completed six summer signings.
The club bosses are not done yet, with focus shifting towards the attack after bolstering the defensive and midfield units. There are talks that the Lilywhites want to add a new left-winger and a new centre-forward to the current squad. There have been links with Savinho, but nothing has materialised just yet. Other wide options are also on the club’s radar, including Benfica’s 22yo Andreas Schjelderup.
Benfica raise Andreas Schjelderup price after World Cup exploits
Andreas Schjelderup’s stock has soared during the World Cup and is now attracting serious interest from clubs across Europe. Tottenham are one of several clubs monitoring the Benfica winger following his standout displays at the 2026 World Cup.
The winger enhanced his reputation at the showpiece event by scoring a stunning goal against England in Norway’s 2-1 quarter-final defeat, having already supplied two assists for Erling Haaland in a memorable victory over Brazil. Despite having two years remaining on his contract, Schjelderup is considering the possibility of a new adventure this summer.
However, according to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (h/t Sport Witness), Schjelderup’s performances at the World Cup have led to Benfica making the decision to up his asking price from €40m to €50m. New boss Marco Silva considers the Norwegian international a key part of his plans, but Benfica are looking for a major summer sale. The Portuguese club want to sell the player and hand the funds to Marco Silva to strengthen different areas of the squad.
Tottenham aren’t the only English club interested in Schjelderup. Liverpool and Chelsea are also keen on the left-winger, who has stalled on signing a new contract at Benfica. He has rejected a three-year extension, so the Eagles are looking to sell him this summer. The report adds that the Portuguese giants will only consider negotiations for the Norwegian talent starting at €50m.
What should Tottenham do?
Tottenham scouts certainly would have been impressed by the performances of Schjelderup at the World Cup. Whenever he played, the youngster looked a threat on the flanks for Norway. The Benfica star produced his best performance against Brazil, chipping in with two assists to knock the five-time World Cup champions out of the competition.
Schjelderup has set his sights on a move to the Premier League. The Bodo-born starlet perfectly aligns with the pressing, attacking identity De Zerbi wants to employ at Tottenham. He possesses the perfect blend of dribbling ability, technical flair, tactical versatility, and pace that De Zerbi demands from his wide players. Norway’s rising star has demonstrated flashes of his potential at the World Cup in North America, and at €50m, Schjelderup could become one of the most intriguing value-for-money acquisitions for the North Londoners.
However, our club chiefs will need to present a highly influential developmental pathway and a clear role under De Zerbi to win the race for the Benfica attacker’s signature.
