The highly-rated star just returned from a loan spell in Bundesliga.
Tottenham Hotspur has been moving quite aggressively in the transfer market, and that shows in the players coming through the doors at N17. But while the incoming business has been reaping headlines, Tottenham are quietly balancing their funds with sales.
Tottenham quietly doing selling business
We have already seen Alejo Veliz walking through the doors at Hotspur Way after the Lilywhites shook hands on his sale with Brazilian side Bahia. Selling Veliz brought Tottenham £7.7m in fees.
Following Veliz, we saw the North Londoners sanctioning a move away for Romanian defender Radu Dragusin. There had been a lot of build-up of frustrations with Dragusin, which saw him finally call his time at Tottenham. The Italian giants Fiorentina signed him for £21.4 million.
Alfie Devine also signed for Preston in a £6m transfer.
Along with the aforementioned three, there have also been some high-profile free exits, including that of Yves Bissouma. And to add to that, six U21 players have also been sold.
Tottenham make third highest grossing sale as Vuskovic joins Brighton
Now Tottenham have made their fourth sale of the summer, which takes the North Londoners’ tally to £80m as Croatian starlet Luka Vuskovic joins Brighton & Hove Albion in an £46m transfer with possible add-ons included in the deal, which can take it to an overall £50m sale.
Vuskovic moved to Tottenham in 2023 from Hajduk Split but has never got to play for the senior side after spending three seasons on loan away from Hotspur Way. At €60m, he is one of Tottenham’s most valuable players.
The only time he featured for Tottenham was in the preseason last year before he eventually moved to Hamburger on a loan transfer.
This £50m sale is the third biggest sale that Tottenham have made, following Gareth Bale and Harry Kane.
Selling him comes after Tottenham has made significant moves to compound their back line after bringing in Marcos Senesi and Van Hecke.
The reinforcements at the heart of defense mean it would only have been difficult for Vuskovic to get considerable minutes under his belt at Tottenham. And citing this concern, he wanted to look for opportunities away from N17. He found exactly that at Amex Stadium, where they prioritize high-ceiling talents and give them consistent minutes under their belt till they grow into their role.
While many Tottenham fans have been against selling someone like Vuskovic given the high ceiling he has, it brings in money, and that money can be used to make transfers that give the Lilywhites immediate results.
