Tottenham just lost opportunity to bring 31 G/A winger to Hotspur Way

Published:

The winger had been on Tottenham’s radar for quite a while.

Tottenham have been bolstering their roster in the ongoing summer window, but while the North Londoners have made reinforcements in the midfield and defense, there have been no incomings to their attacking options yet.

There have been links with Savinho, but nothing has materialized just yet. And alongside Savinho, there have been unstoppable links with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Rafael Leao, and most recently, Eli Kroupi. There have been a lot of reports surrounding the latter in the past couple of weeks.

While the interest in Savinho is cited for a few months, there have also been reports suggesting that Tottenham had been looking at a move for Sporting ace Francisco Trincão.

There was a belief among the chiefs at Hotspur Way that he would offer competition to Mohammed Kudus on the right and even in the creative midfield with Xavi Simons picking up an injury at the end of last season.

Francisco Trincão picks Saudi over Tottenham transfer?

The 26‑year‑old had a good outing with Sporting Lisbon last season, where he managed to grab 31 goal involvements in 54 outings under his belt. His tally includes four goals and three assists in 11 Champions League games that he played in the 2025/26 campaign.

Alongside Tottenham, Manchester City were also said to be interested in signing Trincao. They had identified him as a Savinho replacement (given Spurs’ intense interest in signing the Brazilian wide forward).

But as both the Premiership giants ponder signing the 26-year-old, it looks like he would be playing in the Middle East next season, with Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli prepared to meet the €50 million (£42.1 million) valuation that Sporting CP held for him.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano seconded this move with his infamous ‘here we go,’ indicating that the transfer is almost at a conclusion. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:

“Francisco Trincão to Al Ahli, here we go! Exclusive story confirmed and deal in place.

Paperwork being exchanged with Sporting after sorting $45m fixed fee and $5m add-ons for Portuguese winger.

Al Ahli have their replacement for Riyadh Mahrez.”

Simons-esque quality on the opposite flank?

Francisco Trincão is expected to grab a big payday in the Middle East as Tottenham still searches for other wing options in the market. He would have brought that pause and tenacity, much similar to Xavi Simons, but it looks like he has just passed up an opportunity to play in the Premier League to earn massive money in the Saudi Pro League.
