Tottenham have bizarrely shown an interest in re-signing PSG misfit.
ENIC are doing everything possible to hand Roberto De Zerbi a squad capable of challenging for Champions League spots. Tottenham Hotspur are not resting on their laurels after making six summer signings, as they look to reinforce their forward line.
In a bid to rebuild the squad, there were always going to be a few players leaving through the doors at Hotspur Way. Joao Palhinha’s loan from Bayern Munich was not turned into a permanent deal, so he returned to Bavaria. Radu Dragusin has departed on a season-long loan to Fiorentina, while the club has sold highly-rated Croatian talent Luka Vuskovic to Brighton.
Randal Kolo Muani was also let go by Spurs. The forward spent the last season on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. He endured an underwhelming time in north London, supplying just five goals and four assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. The Frenchman’s performances were just not up to the mark, and unsurprisingly the Tottenham officials did not open talks with PSG over a permanent move.
Spurs podcaster doesn’t think Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Randal Kolo Muani is legitimate
However, in a turn of events, recent reports indicate Tottenham’s interest in signing Randal Kolo Muani. The Lilywhites are understood to have made contact with PSG over a permanent deal for the 27-year-old to reshape their frontline ahead of the new campaign.
But, famous Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham thinks the north London club’s interest in re-signing Kolo Muani is not legitimate. He suggests that Tottenham are being used as a pawn by PSG to force Juventus to stump up the cash for the permanent transfer of the player.
“No chance on that, he didn’t do enough while he was on loan. Although De Zerbi relied on him last season, you’ve got to remember that we were without Mohammed Kudus, without Wilson Odobert, without Xavi Simons,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“So many injuries continued to build up for Tottenham that he was given a run of games, and ultimately, he didn’t perform. I imagine that’s just a ploy by either PSG or Juventus to get that deal to speed up.
“I’m also amazed at the figures involved, they’re talking about £30m being rejected by PSG from Juventus for Kolo Muani.
“I know he had success there previously, but based on his loan at Tottenham last year, I would be really frustrated if Tottenham paid even £10m for him, I find that figure just absolutely bizarre.”
No point bringing back Kolo Muani
Kolo Muani managed only one Premier League goal in 30 appearances. Amid an injury crisis, the 2022 World Cup finalist got regular opportunities in the final stretch of games under De Zerbi, yet he did not perform.
Overall, the PSG outcast never seemed a good fit for the high-intensity and physicality of Premier League football, which is one of the prime reasons for his struggles. Keeping all the factors in mind, Spurs have no business whatsoever in bringing back Kolo Muani. Plus, Wenham is spot on with his analysis. It is a strategy from PSG to include Tottenham’s name to compel Juventus to pay up the asking price for the France international.
