Tottenham star’s World Cup form has put him on the radar of several clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur’s summer build could not have gone any better.
Roberto De Zerbi has already overseen significant changes to his backline following the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson. On top of that, Pedro Porro has penned a contract extension with the North Londoners until 2031. There have been a few departures as well.
Radu Dragusin has left Spurs to join Fiorentina on a season-long loan, while Brighton and Hove Albion have signed Luka Vuskovic in a £46m deal. Another Tottenham defender now linked with an exit is Djed Spence.
Tottenham advised not to let Djed Spence depart cheaply
Djed Spence has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Inter Milan. The Italian champions have been in talks with Tottenham over a deal for the full-back. Versatile enough to line up in either full-back position, the 25-year-old could be a valuable asset to the Nerazzurri, whose boss Cristian Chivu is in search of Denzel Dumfries’ replacement.
However, Inter Milan aren’t the only club interested in Djed Spence. Everton have been keeping tabs on the England international as well. Having had his inclusion in England’s World Cup squad questioned at first, the full-back has silenced his naysayers with impactful cameo appearances off the bench in the wins over Mexico and Norway.
As his stock is soaring off the back of a strong World Cup campaign, former scout Bryan King has advised Tottenham to not let Spence depart this summer for anything under £50m.
“I think he’s done well every time he’s played for England. They’d be foolish to let him go for £25m, that is for sure,” Bryan King exclusively told Football Insider.
“You wouldn’t let him go for £25m. You wouldn’t even start thinking about letting him go for under £50m. We’re talking about a young, current England international. It’s a situation where Tottenham would be stupid to let him go.”
Spence open to Inter Milan move
As per Fabrizio Romano, Spence is open to a move to Inter Milan. The defender’s price tag is higher than Inter’s expectations, but both clubs remain in dialogue. The Spurs star is considered a top target at right wing-back.
Spence’s willingness to join Chivu’s side is an indication that he doesn’t want to remain as a squad player at White Hart Lane. With Porro signing a new deal and Robertson arriving to challenge Destiny Udogie for the left-back spot, Spence is unlikely to be a regular starter under De Zerbi next season.
He has previous experience of playing in Serie A with Genoa, so the Englishman should find it easy to quickly acclimatise to the league’s tactical demands. Tottenham face a big decision on Spence: whether they sell him or De Zerbi guarantees him a prominent role in his first XI.
