Tottenham primed to hijack Al Ahli’s move for 26-year-old Sporting CP winger

Tottenham have received a surprise boost in their pursuit of Sporting CP star.

Tottenham Hotspur have been on a roll in the summer transfer window. Six new faces have arrived through the door at Hotspur Way so far, which is excellent considering we’re only in the middle of July.

Spurs are now focusing on attacking reinforcements after sorting out their defence and midfield for the 2026/27 campaign. Roberto De Zerbi is in the market to sign a new winger, as the Lilywhites continue their big spending.

As per recent reports, Tottenham have shown an interest in signing Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao. However, the player is on the cusp of joining Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli.

Tottenham primed to hijack Al Ahli’s move for Francisco Trincao

There is a new twist in the tale. According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (h/t TEAMtalk), Al Ahli have agreed a package worth €45m with Sporting CP for Francisco Trincao. But the versatile attacker has not yet given a seal of approval to the move. This is because the Portuguese international is still hoping that he’d receive an offer from the Premier League, which is his ideal destination.

That leaves the door wide open for Spurs to hijack Al Ahli’s move for Trincao, although they could be rivalled by Manchester City. Tottenham could make their own move to fill their attacking hole with the 26-year-old, as well as bring competition for Mohammed Kudus on the right flank, and they could be ready to pay big for his services.

The report adds that if the North Londoners decide to sign Trincao, they will have to meet Sporting CP’s full asking price of £38m.

Trincao would be a smart buy

After back-to-back underwhelming seasons in the Premier League, Tottenham are going big in the market as they desperately try to climb up the table and challenge for European spots under De Zerbi. The Italian tactician requires players with specific profiles in the final third, and someone like Trincao would fit the bill perfectly.

Capable of playing out wide and as a No.10, Trincao would bring a different dimension to Spurs’ attack. The Portuguese’s dribbling, incisive passing, movement, and shooting from distance could make him a strong addition to De Zerbi’s attack. He has previous Premier League experience with Wolves, so De Zerbi will hope the 26-year-old adjusts quickly if a move to N17 materialises.

As Trincao hasn’t yet approved a move to Al Ahli, Tottenham have a small window of opportunity to sneak in and lure him to North London.
