Tottenham among clubs interested in La Liga left-back who has a release clause of €20million

Tottenham have been linked with a move for a La Liga left-back.

Tottenham Hotspur have shown ambition in the summer transfer window after a disastrous season. They have added six new players to their squad, backing head coach Roberto De Zerbi to the hilt. And the best part is there’s more to come.

The chief focus has been addressing the glaring issues at the back. The arrivals of Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke, as well as a back-up goalkeeper in Martin Dubravka, prove that. Senesi and Van Hecke’s signings have significantly improved the central defensive unit, whereas Robertson is expected to compete with Destiny Udogie for the left-back spot.

The Italian tactician is keen to further his Spurs rebuild by bringing in attackers, but Spurs have now been linked with another left-back.

Sevilla talent linked with a move to Tottenham

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Sevilla left-back Joaquin Oso. Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are also in the frame.

Oso enjoyed his breakout season at Sevilla last term, making 21 La Liga appearances in the process. He chipped in with two goals and three assists, and delivered some impressive performances. It was enough to catch the attention of clubs across the continent.

The Spaniard’s contract expires next summer, and while he has a €20million release clause in his contract, the left-back is believed to be available for less. Sevilla are expected to consider offers for the 23-year-old as they look to balance their books this summer.

The report adds that Fiorentina are the most advanced club to sign Oso. The versatile full-back’s entourage have been in regular contact with Fiorentina; however, the door is still open for Premier League clubs to try and hijack in the 11th hour.

Should Tottenham go for Oso?

Oso is inexperienced at a high level, but his exciting potential hasn’t gone unnoticed across Europe. Spurs are one of the Premier League clubs understood to be monitoring the 23-year-old, but he is not the player De Zerbi needs at the moment.

In Udogie, Robertson and Souza, De Zerbi has three left-backs currently at his disposal. Add Djed Spence’s ability to operate on the left, and the veteran Ben Davies as a cover, Tottenham are stacked in this department. Whilst talented and exciting with potential to develop, Oso’s signing does not really make sense for the Lilywhites.

If Spurs do think about investing again in the full-back department, it has to be on the right-hand side as a potential replacement for Spence, who is wanted by Serie A champions Inter Milan.
