Tottenham-linked Ligue 1 talent eyed by Premier League rivals.
After a turbulent campaign that saw major changes both on and off the pitch, Tottenham Hotspur have been the busiest Premier League club in the summer transfer window.
Roberto De Zerbi has started reshaping the squad in his vision and image by making six signings. The focus has largely been on addressing the problems in defence and midfield, which is well documented by the fresh faces that have arrived in the white half of North London.
Spurs also require reinforcements in attack to provide De Zerbi with a squad capable of challenging for European spots next season. The Lilywhites have been linked with a host of attackers since the start of June. There have been links with Savinho, but talks with Manchester City appears to have stalled. Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup, who impressed for Norway at the World Cup, is also on their radar. Paris Saint-Germain starlet Ibrahim Mbaye is wanted by Tottenham as well.
Tottenham-linked PSG starlet shortlisted by Manchester City
A product of the PSG academy, Ibrahim Mbaye broke into the senior side in the 2024/25 season. He played 23 times across all competitions for Les Parisians last season and was recently part of the Senegal squad at the World Cup.
Recent reports indicate that PSG are open to offers for the 18-year-old. Mbaye wants to leave his boyhood club for regular playing opportunities, which has put several top European clubs on red alert.
Now, according to French outlet Foot Mercato (h/t GFFN), Manchester City have added Mbaye to their shortlist of summer transfer targets. Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, alongside Bundesliga duo RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.
Mbaye’s reputation has soared following an impressive World Cup campaign in North America. By scoring a sublime goal in Senegal’s group-stage defeat to France, the versatile winger became the youngest goalscorer in his nation’s World Cup history and also the youngest African player ever to score at a World Cup, at just 18 years and 143 days old.
Should Spurs make a move for Mbaye?
Mbaye wants consistent senior football next season to continue his development, having seen his pathway at PSG blocked. And the French champions’ willingness to spend on Barcelona star Ferran Torres should put the Senegalese international further down the pecking order.
Manchester City may perhaps view the PSG winger as a potential replacement for Savinho, who has set his heart on a move to Spurs. As far as Tottenham are concerned, De Zerbi requires a proven winger who can immediately slot into his first XI and make an impact. For all the talent and potential Mbaye possesses, he lacks experience of playing in the Premier League, and that would make him a gamble for the Lilywhites.
Man City are a settled, well-oiled unit and they have the luxury to cherry-pick talents, but at Tottenham, we currently require ready-made, proven players to hit the ground running. So, it’d not be earth-shattering if we lose out on Mbaye to Man City or any other club.
