Roberto De Zerbi has strengthened his Tottenham backroom team with the arrival of long-time fitness collaborator Agostino Tibaudi.
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has continued to reshape his backroom staff by bringing a highly trusted, long-time collaborator to North London ahead of the grueling new season. According to a report by Football London, experienced fitness expert Agostino Tibaudi has officially started working at Hotspur Way. He has joined the club’s specialized sports science and fitness department to put the first-team players through their intensive pre-season paces.
The 60-year-old sports scientist shares an extensive history with De Zerbi, having first integrated into the manager’s backroom team at Sassuolo back in 2018. Since that initial appointment, Tibaudi has established himself as an ever-present figure by the manager’s side, supporting his tactical projects across Europe.
When De Zerbi originally took the coaching reins at Tottenham in late March, many commentators expected a massive influx of Italian backroom staff. However, the head coach intentionally limited the number of immediate appointments to prevent causing unnecessary tactical confusion among the existing squad members.
Initially, only first-team fitness coach Marcattilio Marcattilii and senior professional development coach Marcello Quinto accompanied him to North London. They were eventually followed by translator Enrico Venturelli, meaning Tibaudi represents the fourth member of De Zerbi’s inner circle to successfully transition to the Premier League club.
Expanding the Italian Connection and Backroom Dynamics
Tibaudi brings a wealth of elite experience to Tottenham, having previously held high-profile fitness roles at historic Italian clubs like AC Milan, Sampdoria, and Cagliari. Furthermore, Football London highlighted that the veteran coach is already well-acquainted with English football, having spent a full season working with Chelsea in the early 2000s.
His high-profile arrival further expands the distinct Italian influence growing at the club. Tibaudi joins a strong contingent from his home nation at Hotspur Way, which currently includes defensive star Destiny Udogie, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, and the club’s blockbuster £100 million summer signing Sandro Tonali.
Despite this latest addition behind the scenes, Football London understands that Tibaudi is currently expected to be the absolute final returning face from De Zerbi’s coaching past. The newly arrived fitness expert will collaborate alongside the club’s existing coaching group, which includes assistant managers Bruno Saltor and Andreas Georgson.
