After Nottingham Forest, another Premier League club has tabled an offer for Tottenham midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur have completed the free transfer signings of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka, whilst acquiring the services of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton in a £52m deal. We have also broken the transfer record twice to sign Mateus Fernandes for £85m and Sandro Tonali for £100m.
Further reinforcements in the forward line are expected, but Spurs bosses are also concentrating on player exits. Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine and Radu Dragusin have been some of the players that have left the club, either on loan or permanently. There is speculation surrounding the future of Lucas Bergvall as well.
Spurs fought off elite competition to sign Lucas Bergvall in 2024. They have tied him down to a long-term contract until 2031, but the player wants to leave N17 for regular minutes, which he failed to get last season.
The Swede hasn’t been short of suitors; Nottingham Forest have identified him as a replacement for Elliot Anderson and tabled an opening bid of £38m earlier this week, which was swiftly rejected by Spurs. While they are preparing to return with a new improved bid, another Premier League club has now seen a bid rebuffed.
Tottenham reject Newcastle United’s offer for Lucas Bergvall
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Newcastle United have made a £46 million offer for Lucas Bergvall, only for Tottenham to reject it immediately. The North London club have rejected even higher offers from other clubs as they continue to stand firm over the central midfielder’s future.
Still five years to run on his contract, Tottenham are in a strong negotiating position, and there is no immediate pressure to cash in on the 21-year-old. The N17 chiefs are well within their rights to demand in the region of £50 million to part ways with the Swedish talent, who has managed 78 senior appearances in our famous White shirt.
Bergvall enjoyed a strong debut season in North London and most notably won Spurs’ Player of the Year award in 2025. Even though he was out injured for the Europa League final win over Manchester United last year, the midfielder’s contributions during the group stages and knockout rounds cannot be discounted.
It is the Swedish international’s talent, high potential, Premier League experience and European pedigree that see him regarded so highly by the key decision-makers at the Hotspur Way. And Newcastle United’s £46m bid also underlines how highly Bergvall is rated despite being just 20.
That said, it remains to be seen whether the Magpies return with an improved offer that comes close to Tottenham’s valuation, or Nottingham Forest presents a lucrative package and swoops Bergvall from under their noses.
