Tottenham require creative players to improve the productivity of their attack.
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to right the wrongs of last season in the ongoing transfer window after enduring a difficult campaign. As a result, the North Londoners have moved quickly to strengthen their squad this summer.
Six signings have been made thus far, and there are more to follow. Now that the defence and midfield have been reshaped, Spurs are eager to ensure their attack becomes productive as they look to compete at the top end of the Premier League table under Roberto de Zerbi. The club bosses are hoping to add creativity and guile in the final third, which was witnessed at premium last season.
Xavi Simons is not expected to return this year following an ACL rupture, while Dejan Kulusevski spent the entire 2025/26 campaign on the sidelines after botched knee surgeries. James Maddison only recovered from an ACL injury in the final stages of the campaign and made a few cameo appearances to help Tottenham avoid relegation. As Maddison needs more time to get back to full fitness, and with no timeline for Kulusevski’s return, the Lilywhites must invest in a creative midfielder.
Croatian football expert backs Tottenham to make a move for FC Como midfielder
Tottenham have been reportedly showing an interest in signing FC Como midfielder Martin Baturina. The 23-year-old went to the 2026 World Cup off the back of a strong campaign with FC Como, for whom he played a key role in their Champions League qualification with eight goals and four assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. He scored a brilliant goal against England in the group stages of the World Cup.
Now, Croatian football expert Daniela Rogulj has backed Martin Baturina to succeed if he heads to Tottenham.
“On paper, it makes a lot of sense. [Roberto] De Zerbi likes his teams to build patiently and progress the ball through midfielders who can receive under pressure and turn defence into attack in one motion,” Daniela Rogulj has exclusively told Tottenham News.
“His time under Cesc Fabregas at Como, another coach with a similar possession-based philosophy, should have prepared him well for that kind of system.
“The question isn’t really whether he fits De Zerbi’s style, because I think he clearly does, but it’s more about where he fits into that Tottenham midfield specifically, given the players already there and the money being spent elsewhere this summer.
“If Spurs are serious about building an attacking, possession-heavy side under De Zerbi, Baturina is the profile of player who could genuinely elevate that project.
“I wouldn’t rule out him succeeding elsewhere too, but the tactical alignment with De Zerbi is one of the stronger arguments for this move in particular.”
Baturina would be a strong addition to Tottenham’s midfield ranks
Spurs have spent £185million on midfield moves alone this summer. They’ve landed Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, so it remains to be seen whether Baturina is firmly in their transfer plans.
Baturina, if he arrives, would bring creativity, dynamism and guile in our midfield. The Croatian international has the qualities to immediately improve De Zerbi’s first XI, whilst being a potential long-term successor for Maddison. However, Como will not allow the midfielder to leave for cheap.
The Serie A side value Baturina in the region of €80m, thus our club bosses will have to loosen the purse strings again to land a quality player.
