Tim Sherwood believes Tottenham may not need a new striker, while suggesting Richarlison could leave the club this summer.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has shared his insightful thoughts regarding the club’s ongoing summer striker search as manager Roberto De Zerbi prepares his squad for the grueling new season. According to an update shared by journalist Chris Cowlin on X, Sherwood evaluated the current attacking options at the club, focusing heavily on Dominic Solanke and the tactical future of Richarlison.
Reflecting on the striking choices available to De Zerbi, Sherwood questioned the immediate necessity of an expensive marquee signing while strongly defending the contributions of their current Brazilian frontman. Sherwood said:
“Do they need a striker? Well, perhaps he might kick-start Dominic Solanke, you just don’t know. You’ve got Richarlison as well. Whatever people think about Richarlison, he scored 11 goals in a really poor Tottenham team and helped them stay in the Premier League.”
Despite acknowledging the forward’s crucial role in keeping the North London club in the top division, Sherwood suggested that a summer transfer might still be on the horizon for the former Everton star. He continued:
“I’m not saying he’s the answer, but I was crying out for him to play because I’ve seen him do it in that environment for Everton before and keep them in the league. I think he was a player who really stood up. I do think he might be moved on now, though.”

Looking ahead to how Tottenham might operate in the remaining weeks of the transfer market, Sherwood expressed complete faith in De Zerbi’s ability to locate a suitable replacement from outside the conventional radar. He noted that the Italian tactician has a clear history of utilizing physical, link-up forwards who can effectively anchor an attacking line under pressure.
“If there’s another striker out there, I will trust De Zerbi to go out there and find him, and he might be someone from left field. He’s shown that he likes the Danny Welbecks – a big nine, someone that holds the ball up. João Pedro was at Brighton; it will be someone with credentials like that.”
Sherwood concluded his analysis by leaving the door open for internal solutions, noting that “Solanke might be the answer, though you don’t know…” Ultimately, De Zerbi’s final decisions in the transfer market will heavily dictate whether Tottenham can successfully mount a serious push back up the Premier League table this season.
