Tottenham have learnt the asking price of Galatasaray star.
Tottenham Hotspur may have had two poor seasons in a row in the Premier League, but now the hierarchy are keen to learn from their past mistakes and back the head coach fully in the transfer market.
Out of six fresh faces, the north London club’s most impressive summer business has been the signings of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. The N17 chiefs have smashed their transfer record twice to sign Fernandes and Tonali for a combined £185m. However, they’d be forced to bring in another midfielder amid Lucas Bergvall’s exit links.
Bergvall is seeking greener pastures following the big-money acquisitions of Tonali and Fernandes. Juventus have now entered the race and are trying to beat both Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest to the Swedish talent’s signature.
Galatasaray name asking price for versatile midfielder
There have been reports about Tottenham’s interest in signing Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara. The 27-year-old has been enjoying a productive time in Turkey with Galatasaray, with whom he has won two Super Lig titles and one domestic cup. The versatile midfielder has bagged eight goals and 15 assists in 87 appearances for Galatasaray thus far.
The Brazilian international has expressed a willingness to return to England, where he previously played for Norwich City. Now, according to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Galatasaray are prepared to sell Gabriel Sara for a fee of around £25 million. The Turkish champions want to sell him to balance their books and strengthen other areas of the pitch this summer.
Several Premier League clubs are interested in Sara. Aston Villa and Newcastle United have held talks with the Brazilian’s entourage, the report adds. It is easy to see why clubs from England are keen to sign the player. The 27-year-old’s combo of ability, versatility and experience makes him an appealing option for England’s top-flight clubs.
Should Spurs make a move?
That alone makes this one worth watching. Sara is productive, versatile and coming off a campaign that sharpened his profile across Europe. Six goals and five assists in 42 appearances for Galatasaray is a healthy return, and him being 27 shows that there is another level still to come.
For Tottenham, that profile fits a familiar need: a central midfielder who can create, carry the ball, tackle and still be productive in the final third. The South American is valued at around £25 million, and in modern market terms, this is the kind of deal that can move quickly once player preference becomes clearer.
Sara wants to return to the Premier League, but with Aston Villa and Newcastle United vying for his signature, Spurs must come up with an exciting project to lure him to North London.
