Tottenham will need to sign a full-back to replace Inter Milan-linked Djed Spence.
Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence’s call-up to the England squad for the recently concluded World Cup came as a surprise to many. However, he justified his selection with some impressive performances at the World Cup, most notably in England’s third-place playoff win over France.
This has led to Spence attracting global attention. Inter Milan have identified Spence as one of the primary options to strengthen their wing-back department after losing Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid. The Nerazzurri have reportedly opened talks with Tottenham to explore a move for the England international after a move for Union SG’s Anan Khalaili fell through.
Anan Khalaili failed his medical at Inter Milan after a €25m plus add-ons fee was agreed with Union SG. Inter President Beppe Marotta confirmed the news last week that the club pulled the plug after discovering an irregularity in his heart rhythm, so when the youngster returns to Union SG, he will have to deal with the medical staff there on any required treatment.
Tottenham among clubs get opportunity to sign Anan Khalaili
Anan Khalaili would be extremely disappointed to not join Inter. However, the Israeli international is not of short of suitors, at least in England.
According to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace can have another shot at signing Khalaili. The Premier League trio have been interested in the 21-year-old since the start of the summer, although he will visit a specialist in Belgium and undergo further tests at Union SG to gauge what led to his failed medical at Inter.
None of Tottenham, Newcastle United or Crystal Palace have made advances to sign the versatile full-back yet. Khalaili enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with Union SG, delivering six goals and as many assists across all competitions. He caught the attention of several clubs across Europe with his versatility, work rate, pace, running power and intensity. As far as Spurs are concerned, Roberto De Zerbi would need a full-back to replace Spence in the squad. Spence is open to joining Inter, and that would create a vacuum in the squad, so someone like Khalaili has the required skill-set to take the Englishman’s spot as a back-up to Pedro Porro.
However, given Inter discovered an irregularity in his heart rhythm, the North Londoners may be a bit sceptical about going all out for the Israeli’s signature.
