Premier League giants enter transfer race for Tottenham full-back.
After an incredible start to the summer transfer window that saw Tottenham Hotspur bring in six players to N17, including breaking their transfer record twice in as many days to sign Mateus Fernandes and then Sandro Tonali, their business has quietened down.
The Lilywhites’ next transfer priority is to strengthen the frontline as they look to push up the Premier League table next term. Simultaneously, the club are also focusing on balancing the books by trimming the squad. Some players have been linked with an exit from N17.
Djed Spence has emerged as a target for Inter Milan in the last couple of weeks. The arrival of Andy Robertson has posed a threat to the full-back’s playing time next season, with Destiny Udogie set to be first choice under Roberto De Zerbi. Meanwhile, Pedro Porro is the undisputed starter at right-back, leaving the England international’s future at Spurs in limbo.
Liverpool eye shock swoop for Djed Spence
Djed Spence recently enjoyed a solid 2026 World Cup, starring for England last weekend as they beat France 6-4 to finish third. The versatile full-back saw his reputation soar at the World Cup, leading to growing interest in him. Now, a Premier League club is showing interest in him.
According to journalist Dave Davis, Liverpool are eyeing a shock move for Spence. He is adamant that the Reds are very much keen on a deal for the England international, despite Tottenham wanting a premium price to part ways with him.
“We went digging on this, and Djed Spence is absolutely a player that Liverpool are looking at,” Dave Davis said on the Anfield Index YouTube channel.
“That’s our info now. Liverpool absolutely are having a serious look at Djed Spence.
“Liverpool like him for a number of reasons. Number one, he is electric quick. He is an excellent one-on-one defender, as you’ve also seen, and he’s an excellent carrier.
“He can play right-back and left-back at the same time, which means you just wonder, you know, you sell [Kostas] Tsimikas, and then you’ve got right-back and left-back cover there in Djed Spence.”
The English journalist, though, feels the price could be a deal-breaker for Liverpool.
“They’re gonna want top dollar. So, they should. Spurs should be asking for something like 40 million quid because he’s homegrown. He’s just had a great World Cup,” he added.
“We have to keep an eye on Djed Spence this week.”
Can Liverpool beat Inter Milan to Djed Spence?
Inter Milan are looking for a new right wing-back to replace Denzel Dumfries, and Spence has become a primary target lately. The Serie A side made the first official contact with the defender’s agents earlier this week. And now it has emerged that Liverpool are seriously taking a look at the Tottenham star.
The Merseysiders haven’t replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold since he left on a free transfer to join Real Madrid. Jeremie Frimpong endured an injury-hit debut campaign at Anfield, while Conor Bradley isn’t up to the standards to start week in, week out for the club. Spence, in that regard, could be a good option. He has proven himself to be a well-rounded full-back, capable of contributing both defensively and going forward.
A top English club looking to rebuild the squad under new boss Andoni Iraola, the Reds chiefs could present a tempting offer for Spence to snub Inter’s advances and join them.
