Tottenham are battling Fulham to sign Real Madrid teenager.
Tottenham Hotspur’s incoming business has, unsurprisingly, slowed down in recent weeks after they made six signings within a month of the summer transfer window officially opening. Their next transfer priority is to strengthen the attack, as Roberto De Zerbi hopes to make his squad challenge for the Champions League spots next season.
The Lilywhites need creative players who can link the midfield with attack. James Maddison cannot be trusted to keep himself fit for the entire campaign after only returning to fitness from an ACL injury in late April. Dejan Kulusevski was sidelined for the entire campaign, and there’s no timescale for his return, while Xavi Simons is currently out with an ACL injury.
This demonstrates why there is an urgent need to bring in a creative midfielder in the coming weeks.
Tottenham enquire about Real Madrid talent Franco Mastantuono
According to Argentine newspaper Cronica, Tottenham have made contact with Real Madrid to enquire about the conditions of a potential loan for Franco Mastantuono. Fulham are currently one of the main contenders for the teenager’s signature, with new manager Alvaro Arbeloa pushing internally.
Real Madrid are considering sending Franco Mastantuono out on loan this summer, aiming to provide the youngster with regular first-team football. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that any move for the Argentine talent would be strictly temporary, one there is no option to buy.
This is because Los Blancos view the attacking midfielder as part of their long-term plans and have no intention of letting him go permanently. They want him to play regularly and continue his development.
Fulham have the edge over Spurs
Mastantuono endured a difficult debut season in the Spanish capital after arriving with a lot of fanfare from River Plate last summer. He played 35 times in all competitions, scoring three goals for Real Madrid.
With Madrid signing the hugely experienced Bernardo Silva on a free transfer from Manchester City, and Endrick returning from a productive loan spell with Lyon, Mastantuono’s opportunities under new boss Jose Mourinho will be limited. This is why the Spanish giants want to loan him out, with Fulham and Tottenham emerging as early suitors.
New Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa knows Mastantuono well from their time together at Madrid. This genuinely gives the Cottagers the edge over Tottenham in signing the four-cap Argentina international on a season-long loan. However, given the transfer deals Spurs have pulled off out of nowhere this summer, Fulham cannot afford to take us lightly.
