Tottenham have started their preparations for the 2026/27 season.

Tottenham Hotspur named a 35-man squad for the pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand. Roberto De Zerbi’s side play their first friendly on the tour against Auckland FC on Sunday.

Several players are absent from the squad, either due to injury, late return from World Cup commitments or transfer speculation. One of those is Guglielmo Vicario. Spurs confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario won’t travel with the rest of the team due to a minor knock and will undergo treatment at their training centre.

The Italian goalkeeper has been linked with an exit from north London for some time. The 29-year-old has been a key figure at White Hart Lane, playing a regular role in Spurs’ Europa League triumph last year, though speculation over his long-term future in north London has continued to build in recent months.

Roberto De Zerbi gives injury update on Guglielmo Vicario

Now, Roberto De Zerbi has provided an injury update on Vicario ahead of Tottenham’s friendly vs. Auckland FC.

“Vicario is injured, not a big injury, but he needs to stay one week in London,” Roberto De Zerbi said in his press conference.

Summer signing Martin Dubravka, Brandon Austin and Antonin Kinsky are the goalkeeping options available on tour. De Zerbi’s injury update on Vicario should boost Juventus’ hopes of signing him. The Bianconeri are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, and they have identified Vicario to replace Michele Di Gregorio ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Spurs want to offload Vicario from their books permanently this summer. Tottenham’s asking price for the goalkeeper is around €15m. However, Juventus are finding it difficult to meet the goalkeeper’s valuation. This has led to them reportedly considering a loan with a conditional obligation to buy the Italian international.

Vicario is keen on a return to his homeland after three years in the Premier League. Tottenham’s decision to exclude the 29-year-old from their pre-season tour has strengthened Juve’s chances of signing him through a favourable transfer agreement. It remains to be seen whether Bergvall will secure a move away from Tottenham before deadline day, with the N17 chiefs holding out for a permanent exit.

Hopefully, the Udine-born glovesman’s injury heals quickly and doesn’t become an obstacle for a potential move to Juve.
