The Tottenham striking duo opened their summer goalscoring accounts during a comfortable win over Auckland FC in front of a record breaking New Zealand crowd.
The passionate N17 faithful woke up early as Richarlison and Dane Scarlett opened their preseason goalscoring accounts in New Zealand. Manager Roberto De Zerbi trusted several promising academy graduates against the reigning domestic champions at Eden Park. Archie Gray proudly wore the captain’s armband during a composed performance. The squad completely controlled the overall tempo from the first whistle.
The North Londoners asserted their dominance early on the famous pitch. Gray intercepted a loose pass and immediately picked out Manor Solomon at the far post. The opposition goalkeeper parried the initial volley straight into a very dangerous penalty area. Scarlett remained incredibly alert and simply tucked the loose ball into an empty net on twelve minutes.
Official Tottenham club media praised the young academy striker by noting that he was “ready to pounce” for the opening goal. The hosts created a few isolated moments of panic before the half time break. Brandon Austin produced a brilliant save to deny Sam Cosgrove a golden equalising opportunity. The overall defensive discipline displayed was extremely encouraging for everyone watching.

The ambitious manager decided to shuffle his pack just after the hour mark. Senior players including Ben Davies and Conor Gallagher entered the fray to provide crucial stability. The timely introduction of fresh legs allowed the visitors to completely strangle the midfield battle. High pressing remains a core tactical fundamental for the team under the new tactical system.
Mathys Tel looked incredibly lively down the left flank following his second half introduction. The talented attacker aggressively drove to the byline before cutting a perfect pass backwards. The highly motivated sixty million pound rated Richarlison expertly finished the flowing move from exactly six yards out to double the lead and secure a very comfortable 2-0 victory.
The Brazilian international will desperately want to enjoy a remarkably prolific domestic campaign this year. Building crucial match fitness always remains the primary objective during these summer exhibition fixtures. Integrating promising youth like Scarlett alongside established stars provides vital feedback for the coaching staff. Delivering another assertive performance on Wednesday will build massive momentum ahead of the new campaign.
