The Lewis family have done a good job in backing Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi this summer

Tottenham cannot afford a repeat of last season if they are to compete for major honours under Roberto de Zerbi. It was a campaign to forget for the Lilywhites, who finished just one place above the relegation zone in the Premier League. At one stage, there was a genuine belief that the North Londoners were destined for relegation after struggling to produce consistent results. However, thanks to the timely appointment of Roberto de Zerbi, the club found a way to finish the season strongly and avoid further embarrassment.

Credit must also go to the Lewis family for backing Roberto de Zerbi during the ongoing transfer window. The Lilywhites have already made several important signings as they look to compete at the top end of the Premier League table. The arrivals of Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, and Marcos Senesi have significantly strengthened the defence ahead of the new season. Meanwhile, the North Londoners have also reinforced their midfield by signing Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

There is a strong case for Spurs to finish in the European places this season. The club is working hard to make a positive start to the Premier League campaign under Roberto de Zerbi. With two wins from two in pre-season, the Lilywhites have shown plenty of encouraging signs, with the players adapting well to De Zerbi’s style of play.

Tottenham have splashed the cash in the transfer window this summer

Tottenham have often been known for spending their money wisely in the transfer market. They are not a club that typically make statement signings, and that is one of the main reasons why the Lilywhites have enjoyed so little success in recent decades. However, it appears that the Lewis family have adopted a different approach during the current transfer window and have made it clear that they are prepared to back Roberto de Zerbi as the club looks to build on its Europa League success moving forward.

The North Londoners have splashed the cash on new arrivals, and no one can claim that the club has lacked ambition in recent weeks. As per Dragon Football (via X), Spurs have spent a staggering £229.5m this summer, making them the Premier League’s biggest spenders. Chelsea are second with £225.6m, followed by Manchester City in third with £153.1m. This highlights the Lilywhites’ determination to assemble a squad capable of competing for major honours this season.

The fans are also delighted to see the Lewis family showing ambition in the transfer market. With player valuations so heavily inflated this summer, it was important for Spurs to raise the bar and invest in world-class talent. To their credit, the Lilywhites have done exactly that by bringing in players who could make an immediate impact at N17 in the months ahead. It is also worth noting that the North Londoners have broken their own transfer record twice this summer. First, by signing Mateus Fernandes for £85m…. and then by signing Sandro Tonali for approximately £100m.

The onus now falls on Roberto de Zerbi to get the very best out of his squad as the club aims to compete at the top end of the Premier League table. The players are already showing encouraging signs of adapting to the Italian tactician’s philosophy. There is also growing optimism around N17 that Spurs can secure European football this season while mounting a serious challenge in one of the domestic competitions. Will they build on their Europa League success? Only time will tell.
