Cristian Romero has long been linked with an exit.
If you’ve been anywhere around scrolling your X (formerly Twitter) timeline today, you’d know that Cristian Romero has been closing in on a move away from Hotspur Way with the links to Inter Milan growing by the hour.
And right up until yesterday this one did look quite nicely bound for a move to San Siro, with a few outlets going as far as to suggest that the Serie A giants fancied wrapping this one up by the end of next week.
But that is when the wheels wobbled after word went round (around dawn today) that Inter Milan had switched their interest to John Stones after finding out that the Manchester City man will be available for a cheaper transaction cost than Romero.
The John Stones saga, will it affect Cuti Romero Inter transfer?
The reports soon went around that Inter Milan were put off by Cuti’s wage demands, which were branded as “excessive.” And amid that uncertainty comes Alfredo Pedulla, who insists that Inter’s interest in signing John Stones has nothing to do with them pursuing a move for Romero. He suggests that Inter head coach Christian Chivu will not mind welcoming both of them through the doors at San Siro.
Since then, Gianluigi Longari has given his say on the situation. He took to X, suggesting that personal terms have already been sorted on the John Stones front.

He also suggested that Inter are still working hard to complete the Romero deal. He insisted that the Nerazzurri are chasing a €40m (£34m) agreement for the Lilywhites skipper. He states that the Serie A giants are working on the wages end with the Argentine World Cup winner after Inter found a “basis of an agreement” with Tottenham for that aforementioned £34m figure.
Longari goes on to suggest that Barcelona is also interested in Romero and is lurking in the shadows for his signature. And that would be the ideal case for Tottenham given that it would make an auction-like situation for the North Londoners.
Author Opinion
Let’s be honest, Romero is a player who surely commands more value than the fees that Inter are willing to pay right now. He is a World Cup winner, one of the finest defenders on the planet on his day, going for a shade over thirty mil.
Right now the dream scenario for Tottenham would be Barça actually putting their money where their mouth is and this sparking a proper bidding war that ends up dragging that fee somewhere closer to his actual value.
