Souza’s representatives have travelled to Portugal to hold talks with ‘this’ team

Tottenham youngster wanted by Portuguese giants.

Roberto De Zerbi has already embarked on a major spending spree this summer, with six fresh faces arriving at Tottenham Hotspur. The Italian’s shopping in the transfer market hasn’t finished as he bids to build a squad capable of challenging for the Champions League spots.

Having spent a lot of money already, the North London club will have to facilitate sales and generate funds to ensure that they comply with the Premier League’s financial regulations. In addition, the funds that come from sales will potentially help Spurs to land their attacking targets before September 1.

Earlier this week, SL Benfica are interested in signing Souza. The Portuguese club have reportedly submitted a €20m offer for the left-back, and Tottenham are evaluating the proposal. The 20-year-old’s future at the club has become uncertain following the arrival of experienced left-back Andy Robertson from Liverpool. Now, arguably Benfica’s biggest rivals have entered the race for the youngster.

FC Porto show interest in Souza

According to reliable journalist Bruno Andrade, Souza’s representatives have travelled to Portugal to hold talks with FC Porto. They are expected to meet the Portuguese champions in the coming days. FC Porto are hoping that possible meetings can accelerate negotiations for the transfer of Souza. However, there is still no formal offer on the table.

Souza was signed in January for a €15m fee from Santos, but he only played four times during the second half of the season. The 20-year-old did not feature under Roberto De Zerbi across the last seven games and was recently left out of the squad for the pre-season tour to Australia and New Zealand. It is clear that he doesn’t feature in De Zerbi’s immediate plans.

Andrade adds that Tottenham are open to doing business with Porto, although there is still work to do before any agreement can be reached. A structure of a deal is yet to be proposed by Porto.

Tottenham must sanction temporary exit for Souza

When Tottenham signed Souza from Santos in the winter transfer window, the assumption was that he would spend some seasons at White Hart Lane. However, the 20-year-old accumulated just 144 minutes across four matches.

With the left-back department well-stocked, it does not appear that the Brazilian has an immediate future under De Zerbi. So, Souza apparently is seeking a move away from Tottenham this summer. Given the fact that he is highly-rated across the South American circuit but has little experience at the top level, a loan move would suit all parties.

That said, the N17 bosses must only agree to a straight loan for Souza to Porto.
