Tottenham are plotting a shock move for Barcelona star Jules Kounde.
Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka have all joined on free transfers, while Tottenham Hotspur have spent £237m on Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke.
The North London club have also secured the futures of some key players by offering them new contracts. Pedro Porro signed an extension earlier this month, committing his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 26-year-old, who was a part of the Spanish squad that lifted the 2026 World Cup, has been the club’s first-choice right-back in recent years. And as Porro is going nowhere, clubs are targeting a move for his deputy, Djed Spence.
Spence has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe after his impressive displays at the World Cup. Tottenham are open to selling the England international but at the right price. As a potential replacement for Spence, the club bosses have identified a player from La Liga.
Tottenham preparing an offer for Barcelona star
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are preparing an offer of €65million to sign Barcelona defender Jules Kounde. The anticipated proposal aligns with the valuation that Barcelona would consider for the Frenchman’s sale.
Jules Kounde has been a consistent performer for Barcelona since arriving from Sevilla in 2022. The Catalan giants extended his contract to 2030, and as a result, they retain control over any negotiations. They are ready to let the versatile defender leave this summer, provided their valuation is met, but the France international wants to continue at the club. He has no desire to leave the club after penning an extension last year.
The report adds that Tottenham values Kounde’s ability to play both as a right-back and in central defence, which would offer the head coach flexibility within the defensive line. Should Spurs table an offer of €65million, Barcelona will evaluate whether to negotiate for Kounde or reject the offer to maintain stability in the defensive unit.
Spurs must target a younger profile than Kounde as Spence’s potential replacement
Porro has already established himself as the undisputed first-choice right-back at the club. The North Londoners have convinced Porro to sign an extension, and by doing so, the 2026 World Cup winner has poured cold water on all the speculation surrounding him.
De Zerbi has an established right-back in Porro; what he requires is a profile who’d cover and challenge the Spaniard next season. While signing Kounde would be excellent, it could create instability having two proven and experienced right-backs in the squad. Thus, Spurs must scour the market for a younger profile than Kounde if Spence departs.
