‘He’s certainly not a Gordon Banks’ – Transfer insider makes Crystal Palace captain to Tottenham claim

Published:

Tottenham have been one of the busiest EPL clubs this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur has been looking to ship off Vicario in the ongoing summer transfer window, with the former Empoli man linked with a return to Serie A as Juventus and Napoli eye his signing.

If Vicario were to leave, Antoin Kinsky would stake his claim as the undisputed starter between the sticks going into the new season.

While all eyes are on Kinsky, the North Londoners have spent most of the ongoing window bringing in highly regarded players who raise the floor of the roster at Hotspur Way. And it could be quite expected that they will do the same in the goalkeeping department. This is exactly where the links for a move to Dean Henderson come into play.

King gives his say on Dean Henderson to Tottenham transfer

The Crystal Palace goalkeeper took on the skipper armband at Selhurst Park after Eberechi Eze signed for Arsenal last summer. And he has been pivotal for them. This importance that he has in the dressing room for the Eagles has pushed Steve Parish into starting new contract talks with the former Manchester United man.

Henderson has a contract with Crystal Palace till 2028, and he has been talking for more. But we need to see if Palace would agree to sell. They have already lost Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea in the ongoing window, which comes only seven months after losing Marc Guehi. This is already a massive defensive revamp that they are looking at. To lose Henderson from here would be a massive blow to Pierre Sage & Co.

And that is exactly what former Tottenham scout Bryan King also thinks. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Football Insider, King insisted that Palace would not be selling the 29-year-old this summer. He said:

“I’ve heard talk about Henderson, I’m really sure he would be the solution. He’s certainly not a [Gordon] Banks, he’s not a [Peter] Shilton, or a [Ray] Clemence. I think Spurs must be on the lookout for a really named goalkeeper for me but where are they?

“Honestly, if you’re looking in London, then Henderson would have been the choice but again, I can’t see Palace going to be selling all their players. They got rid of the centre-half [Lacroix] for small money, really, didn’t they?”

Can Tottenham take advantage of Glasner exit?

With Oliver Glasner bidding adieu to Palace, there has been a lot of uncertainity around that Tottenham can pounce on if they are serious about landing Henderson. But King is right in his assessment; they have lost a lot of big players in a short time, and that makes keeping them all more important at SE25.

For Tottenham, at the moment there have been links here and there surrounding a move for a new keeper, but going into the final weeks of the window, it looks like Antoin Kinsky will pick up the responsibility between the sticks when Tottenham lines up against Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium.
