Romero’s camp has been in talks with Inter Milan lately, with sporting director Piero Ausilio admitting that they are trying to sign the Tottenham skipper.
Latest reports suggest that the Argentina international is close to agreeing personal terms with the Nerazzurri. The Serie A club have closed the gap on both the player’s proposed salary and associated agent commissions.

According to ESPN Argentina, Tottenham and Inter Milan have reached a verbal agreement over a €40 million deal for Romero. Negotiations between the two clubs accelerated following direct discussions between Piero Ausilio and the Tottenham hierarchy.
While the North Londoners initially held out for a higher valuation, both parties have found a middle ground on a financial package worth €40 million. Earlier this week, Inter Milan had reportedly submitted a proposal consisting of an initial loan deal combined with a €40 million obligation-to-buy clause. However, Tottenham have been hellbent on an outright sale of the Argentine, and they are close to achieving their target.
Since arriving at Tottenham back in 2021, Romero has established himself as a crucial pillar of our defensive structure. When fully fit and focused, he’s been an asset to the Lilywhites and led the side well. The Cordoba-born star’s front-footed style of defending, aggressive tackling, aerial dominance, and ball-playing skills have made him one of the top central defenders in the Premier League.
At 28, Romero is in the prime stages of his career, and having been accustomed to the demands of Serie A football, he’d be expected to hit the ground running at Inter if a move materialises. A €40 million package represents a bargain deal for Inter, who will be getting a leader, an established, World Cup-winning defender at the peak of his powers.
As things stand, an official agreement does not look that far.
