Tottenham have been one of the most active clubs this summer.
Tottenham had been struggling to find the back of the net throughout the 2025/26 campaign, and this is where the Lilywhites’ supporters demand a new face coming in, someone who can bring goals to that frontline.
We have seen the Lilywhites being quite aggressive in the transfer market, which has led to the North Londoners bringing in some marquee players, viz., Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke for marquee fees.
This is where a revamped first- and second-phase roster needs an equally potent front line, which is where Tottenham’s pursuit of high-profile forwards comes into play.
The Lilywhites have been linked with a few players; among them is Manchester City wide forward Savinho, who has struggled for game time for the Cityzens. Alongside the Brazilian, Spurs have also been linked with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo tipped for Tottenham transfer
The 27-year-old PSV academy graduate only penned down a new contract extension at Anfield Stadium last season, which keeps him at L4 until 2030. But after the conclusion of the last season there have been a lot of reports going around about his possible Liverpool exit, especially since Arne Slot was relieved of his duties in charge of the Merseysiders.
And this is where senior transfer correspondent around Tottenham Paul O’Keefe has backed Gakpo to be a leading contender to seal a move to N17. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, he wrote:
“Cody Gakpo now a leading contender as #Tottenham look to add to their attacking options”

While Gakpo is a very good player and will be an addition from a quality perspective to the current squad, there will surely be some hesitation among the Spurs fans around him given he has rarely produced seasons that make you trust him with the magnitude of pressure that he will have to be involved in goals at Tottenham.
At Liverpool, Gakpo had a star-studded forward to support him, but he will not have that luxury at Tottenham.
We have seen the likes of Solanke and Richarlison struggle at Tottenham for years, and Gakpo doesn’t have that x factor different from the aforementioned two to assure you of goals.
And then comes the price tag. There has been news that the Reds are falling back on Gordon’s price tag if they are to sell Gakpo. That will surely be Tottenham overpaying (with all due respect to Gakpo).
We will see where this goes, but we don’t see this being realistic at least if the ballpark figure is around that massive Gordon fee.
