Tottenham face competition from bitter rivals Arsenal for the signing of La Liga star.
Earlier this week, Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that he expects two or three more signings to arrive at N17 before the September 1 transfer deadline.
It looks like Spurs are actually eyeing a marquee attacking signing in the final month of the transfer window. Savinho has been the North Londoners’ primary attacking target; however, despite negotiations with Manchester City for almost two months, a breakthrough hasn’t been found.
Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi has caught the attention of Tottenham as well following a sensational debut season in English football, with De Zerbi keen to add a new No.9 to his ranks. Unfortunately, Kroupi sustained a metatarsal injury in training earlier this week and has been ruled out for several months after undergoing surgery. This has resulted in the Lilywhites identifying alternative targets to Kroupi, and Barcelona star has emerged on their radar.
Arsenal eye move for Tottenham-linked Barcelona forward Ferran Torres
Tottenham have shortlisted Barcelona star Ferran Torres to strengthen their attacking ranks. The Spanish international’s representatives have been alerted by interest from a host of clubs across Europe. The 26-year-old, who inspired Spain to World Cup glory by scoring the winning goal in the final against Argentina, is eager to leave Barcelona this summer.
However, according to Spanish outlet Diario Sport, Arsenal are also considering tabling an offer for Torres. French champions Paris Saint-Germain have been tipped as a potential destination for the versatile forward.
The 26-year-old arrives on the back of his most productive league campaign, scoring 16 goals and providing two assists in 33 La Liga appearances, while also enhancing his stock on the international stage with a decisive World Cup-winning goal.
Christos Tzolis arrived at Arsenal in a £34m deal from Club Brugge in July, but Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a marquee name in attack ahead of the new campaign. Chelsea’s signing of Morgan Rogers in an eye-watering £117m deal from Aston Villa have left Arsenal in desperate mode now, with Arteta apparently switching his focus to Torres.
In England, Tottenham and Arsenal appear to be showing the most interest in Torres. In reality, the Gunners have the upper hand over Spurs to land the ex-Manchester City man. They have been a stable environment under Arteta in recent years and are set to defend their Premier League title next season. Arteta’s Arsenal have a strong project and Champions League football to offer, which might tempt Torres to make a move to the red half of North London. At the moment, though, PSG are leading the race for the versatile Spaniard’s signature.
