Highly-rated Tottenham youngster is heading to newly-promoted Championship club on loan.
Tottenham Hotspur have been preparing well for the upcoming season. They have won all four pre-season games, with the latest being a 2-1 win over bitter rivals Chelsea in Sydney.
Roberto De Zerbi has given chances to youth across the four friendlies. There have certainly been a few players who have showcased they are ready or at least deserve a chance in the first team. However, some of them could be better off with guaranteed and regular minutes elsewhere.
While there is quite a bit of interest around various academy talents at N17, few of them will garner as much attention as Mason Melia. The teenager finally made his long-awaited move to Tottenham earlier this year, arriving at White Hart Lane following his glowing reputation as a lethal striker with St Pat’s in the League of Ireland. However, his opportunities were very limited after that stage.
Mason Melia was nursing a back injury when he moved to Spurs, resulting in a lengthy spell on the sidelines. He would eventually make a handful of appearances for the club’s U21 side before the end of the season.
Lincoln City win race to sign Mason Melia
Recent reports suggested that Melia has emerged as a target for 30+ clubs, proof of how highly he is rated across the continent. After making a thorough consideration, Spurs have decided to send the 18-year-old to the Championship.
Now, according to a report from Football Insider, newly-promoted Championship side Lincoln City have agreed a deal to sign Melia on a season-long loan. They are hoping to have the deal for the young forward wrapped up within 48 hours.
Amid interest from several clubs in England and across Europe, Lincoln City have now beaten them all to the punch. The Championship newbies are aiming to reach a full agreement and have medical checks completed within days.
The Republic of Ireland international, who is under contract at N17 until 2031, will hope to impress in the Championship. Tottenham have high hopes for his long-term development, and they feel Lincoln City is the best place for the teenage prodigy to nurture his talent further under joint head coaches Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw.
Melia has achieved the remarkable distinction of making his senior Republic of Ireland debut before ever appearing for Tottenham’s first team, which demonstrates his ceiling. With the Lilywhites expected to sign a new forward this summer, Dominic Solanke, rated highly by the gaffer despite his injury-ravaged 2025/26 season, a loan move to Lincoln City gives him a chance to play regular senior football and continue his growth.
