Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi wants to keep Mathys Tel amid interest from ‘this’ Serie A team.
Roberto De Zerbi was clear about what he wanted in this transfer window, and the Tottenham Hotspur chiefs have delivered thus far.
The North Londoners have performed well in the summer transfer window, wrapping up six deals. There is no stopping, with focus shifting on recruiting attackers. The likes of Cody Gakpo, Savinho and Andreas Schjelderup have been linked with moves to N17. Given De Zerbi wants to add at least a couple of attackers to his squad, it could be difficult to keep hold of a few players.
In recent weeks, speculation has mounted around Mathys Tel’s future at Tottenham. The France Under-21 international, who signed for the North London club on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich only last summer, is keen to leave after an underwhelming individual season.
The versatile forward has not been short of suitors; Galatasaray have been showing an interest in signing Mathys Tel. Serie A side AS Roma have revived their interest in the 21-year-old after failing to land him during the winter transfer window.
Mathys Tel has minimal chance of joining AS Roma
AS Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini is scouring the market for players to improve his attacking unit for the upcoming season. He has made a list of options that his club could sign, and Tel is on it.
Giallorossi are looking to bring in at least one wide forward after losing out on Crysencio Summerville to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal. Tel is on their radar, but chances of a move to the Italian capital could be very little now.
According to the reputable Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla on X, the Tottenham forward now has a ‘minimal chance’ of joining AS Roma. This is because Gasperini and Co. are currently looking at other targets, with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli also on their radar.
This development comes after De Zerbi recently hailed Tel’s growth and importance at Tottenham. He described the Frenchman as an “important player”, accepting that it is his and the club’s responsibility to unlock his massive potential. Having gained a full season’s experience in English football under his belt, the 21-year-old is expected to kick on at Tottenham in the upcoming campaign if he stays.
De Zerbi wants Tel to remain in N17 and fight for his place. With Roma focusing on other targets to improve their attacking ranks, retaining the French starlet’s services has become a tad easier.
