Tottenham star is set to extend his stay at the club in a big boost for Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham Hotspur have shown they mean business after enduring a torrid last season, forking out a staggering £237 million thus far and breaking their club transfer record in the process.
Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes have arrived at the club for a combined £185 million this summer, whilst the likes of Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka were snapped up on free transfers. Jan Paul van Hecke has also joined Spurs in a £52 million deal from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The additions of Robertson, Senesi and Van Hecke have significantly bolstered Roberto De Zerbi’s defensive unit. Van Hecke has been brought in as a potential replacement for Cristian Romero, who looks to be on his way to Inter Milan. So, Tottenham could sport a Dutch centre-back pairing next season, with Van Hecke potentially partnering Micky van de Ven.
Tottenham close to agreeing a new deal with Micky van de Ven
Micky van de Ven is yet to feature for the Lilywhites this pre-season despite being part of the squad that toured Australia and New Zealand. After featuring at the World Cup, De Zerbi is keen to manage the 25-year-old’s fitness in a bid to keep him fresh for the start of the 2026/27 campaign. He remains a crucial cog of the Tottenham squad, both on and off the ball.
Despite early indications to leave White Hart Lane, there is a growing belief within the club that the Netherlands international can now be persuaded to stay. Now, according to reliable club insider Szyexcl on X, Van de Ven is close to agreeing a new long-term contract with Tottenham.
A contract renewal will certainly see Van de Ven receive a significant pay rise at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Currently, the centre-back earns £90,000 per week. Fresh terms could make him one of the highest earners at the club and take the Dutchman closer to £200,000 per week, given his importance to the De Zerbi-managed club.
The North London outfit appear to acknowledge the defender’s importance by pressing ahead with efforts to get him tied down to a new deal. Van de Ven was heavily linked with an exit since midway through the second half of the season, but after De Zerbi guided the club to safety, speculation surrounding his future cooled down.
Big boost for De Zerbi
The Dutchman is one of the Premier League’s best defenders, and despite a substandard past season, he will be a key player for De Zerbi’s side. Having captained the side many times and proven his leadership skills, the native from Wormer remains a big part of Tottenham’s leadership group heading into the 2026/27 campaign.
So, securing Van de Ven’s future before the new season begins is just as pivotal as the new signings made. In terms of fitness, the Netherlands star has to be managed well by De Zerbi and his coaching staff.
