Tottenham youngster has joined a Championship club on a season-long loan.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently focused on trimming their squad after spending around £230m on six new signings.
The likes of Luka Vuskovic, Alejo Veliz, Alfie Devine and Will Lankshear have left on permanent departures, while Yves Bissouma was released after the end of the 2025-26 season. Joao Palhinha also left after his loan from Bayern Munich was not turned into a permanent deal.
Talented youngster Mason Melia has been attracting interest from a host of clubs. The 18-year-old earned himself a record £1.6 million move to north London after massively impressing for St Patrick’s Athletic. He burst onto the scene in Ireland’s top flight, becoming the youngest scorer in the league’s history at 15 before going on to net 21 league goals in 76 games, establishing himself as one of the brightest young talents in the country.
Mason Melia joins Lincoln City
Amid interest from over 30+ clubs, Lincoln City won the race for Mason Melia’s signature at the start of the week. And now, the newly-promoted Championship club have made the signing of Melia official.
The teenager has joined Lincoln City on a season-long loan from Tottenham, subject to EFL approval. The Irishman is now set to arrive at the ProAmpac Stadium to provide competition for Rob Street and Freddie Draper in the striker position.
“I’m delighted to be here and get everything completed. Everyone I’ve met has been so welcoming, and I’m excited to get going in the Championship,” Melia said after joining Lincoln City.
“The ambition of the club really stood out to me. Our first conversation was a bit mad because we were trying to work around all the different time zones while I was in Australia, but once we got everyone together, the presentation was unbelievable. It played a huge part in my decision to come here because it showed me the club’s vision and what we can achieve together.
“It made me feel really wanted, which is important as a footballer. I came away from that meeting buzzing. My aim is to score goals, help the team in every way I can and contribute to a successful season for the club. I’m really excited for what’s ahead.”
Chance for Melia to impress
Melia was nursing a back injury when he moved to Spurs, resulting in a lengthy spell on the sidelines. He would eventually make a handful of appearances for the club’s U21 side before the end of the season.
A loan move to Lincoln City allows him to showcase his talent and continue his development. The two-cap Republic of Ireland international will be hoping to clock regular minutes by becoming a mainstay in Chris Cohen’s side. Tottenham’s idea behind sending Melia to the Championship is to expose him to the physicality and intensity of English football.
It should help the youngster toughen up, which is why regular opportunities in the upcoming season in the second tier of English football is pivotal for the striker’s development.
