Tottenham midfielder wants a new challenge this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have surprised many with their transfer business this summer, including our fanbase.
The signings of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes have made the most headlines. They have joined in two club-record transfers to significantly boost Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield options. This has led to uncertainty surrounding the future of Lucas Bergvall at the club.
The Swedish international has been strongly linked with a move away from White Hart Lane. Premier League quartet Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Brighton and Sunderland have all shown interest in signing the 20-year-old, who is keen on a new challenge. Both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have had offers rejected, with De Zerbi having spoken to Lucas Bergvall personally to reassure him of his role at the club.
Tottenham bracing for offers from Premier League duo for Lucas Bergvall
Now, according to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are plotting a second bid for Bergvall. Nottingham Forest are also expected to return with an improved second offer for the central midfielder. The pair are waiting in the wings for further developments on the player’s situation, with the Swede’s exit imminent this summer.
Bergvall has sought clarity on his role under De Zerbi, especially after Spurs reshaped their engine room in July by bringing in Fernandes and Tonali. The Scandinavian talent’s representatives are exploring options that ensure regular first-team football and the pathway to develop. Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have been keeping tabs on the player’s availability should Spurs sanction a summer move.
De Zerbi recently admitted that he would like the versatile midfielder to stay at Tottenham but cannot guarantee him a starting berth, and these words have done little to boost Bergvall’s confidence over staying put in N17. With the Lilywhites not participating in any European competitions in the 2026/27 season, he faces the prospect of reduced role and game time in De Zerbi’s tactical framework.
The Spurs head coach’s words have kept Newcastle and Forest firmly in the race to sign Bergvall. The Magpies’ first bid was higher than the Tricky Trees’ at £46m, but it was still swiftly rebuffed by the Tottenham hierarchy. Both clubs are armed with cash after making big-money sales this summer and are expected to return with offers for the Stockholm-born prodigy.
As things stand, it is a case of which club is ready to meet Tottenham’s £60million asking price for the talented Bergvall.
