‘It would be like running away’ – Juventus star opens up on his future amid Tottenham links

Tottenham were heavily linked with the Serie A star earlier in the transfer window.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to further bolster their squad and have pressed the accelerator on their efforts to sign Liverpool star Cody Gakpo. They also remain in discussions to try to bring in Manchester City’s Savinho, who is keen to become a part of Roberto De Zerbi’s forces in N17.

Spurs focused on addressing the problems in defence and midfield during the first half of the summer transfer window. As far as the defence is concerned, the club bosses have brought in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke. Robertson will compete with Destiny Udogie for the left-back spot, while Senesi and Van Hecke have bolstered the centre-back unit.

Gleison Bremer opens up on his future at Juventus amid Tottenham links

Before Senesi and Van Hecke arrived at the club, Tottenham were reportedly interested in signing Juventus defender Gleison Bremer. As Juventus narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of last season, there were suggestions of the experienced Brazilian being sacrificed to ensure they met the financial fair play regulations.

Gleison Bremer is one of the finest players in the Juventus squad and selling him could earn Juventus a significant fee. The Bianconeri need cash flow, and several clubs are interested in signing the central defender. However, Luciano Spalletti rates the 29-year-old highly and wants to keep him at the Old Lady.

Now, the Brazilian international has made it clear that he has never asked to leave Juventus. Bremer’s comments suggest that he remains fully committed to the club and does not intend to force an exit, even during a difficult period for the Old Lady.

“I have not asked Juventus to sell me. Especially at a difficult moment, for the club and for me, it never crossed my mind; it would be like running away. If one day I part from Juventus, perhaps when I’m older, I’ll walk out the front door with my head held high,” Bremer said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Tottenham have opted for players with Premier League experience

Tottenham have opted for the policy of recruiting players with Premier League experience this summer. All six players brought in have played in the top flight, which should help them settle in quickly and hit the ground running at White Hart Lane.

When it comes to defenders, Robertson, Senesi and Van Hecke are proven commodities and can be relied upon to sustain the demands of an entire Premier League season. Senesi is expected to be Van de Ven’s back-up, while Van Hecke’s acquisition has freed up Cristian Romero to leave the club.

As far as Bremer is concerned, he is undoubtedly a robust and reliable defender with sound technique. However, no Premier League know-how under his belt could have come under consideration at Tottenham when adding to the centre-back department.
