AS Roma have expressed an interest in signing the Tottenham star.
Tottenham Hotspur have been trimming their squad in recent weeks after spending heavily in the first half of the summer transfer window.
The likes of Luka Vuskovic, Will Lankshear, Radu Dragusin, Alfie Devine and a few more have left the club, with the likes of Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario and Djed Spence expected to follow. Spence is planning to leave Spurs following the arrival of Andy Robertson from Liverpool in June, with Inter Milan emerging as a potential suitor. Well, the England international isn’t the only full-back attracting interest from Serie A.
Tottenham are not entertaining bids for defender Destiny Udogie
Destiny Udogie has emerged on the radar of AS Roma. The Giallorossi have reportedly ‘initiated contact’ with the entourage of the Spurs defender as they look to lure him back to Italy. However, any move depends on the club selling one of their young defensive talents, Daniele Ghilardi or Jan Ziolkowski.
The 23-year-old has had a rough time with injury problems in the last 12-15 months. This has hampered his performance levels and impact on the Tottenham side. Four separate injuries last season limited Destiny Udogie to just 20 Premier League appearances, and he hasn’t played a single minute for the North Londoners in pre-season thus far.
Nonetheless, the Italian international is extremely highly regarded by Roberto De Zerbi. According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham have not yet opened up to letting Udogie depart this summer amid AS Roma interest.
The Verona-born talent is currently nursing a knock, which has kept him sidelined throughout the pre-season campaign. This means Udogie is firmly behind the rest of the squad in terms of fitness when he returns to the fold. It is not yet known whether he’d be fit to participate in the final pre-season friendly against German side Hoffenheim.
De Zerbi rates Udogie highly and sees his compatriot as a crucial part of his squad. As Udogie isn’t expected to be fully fit before the new season commences, De Zerbi is set to go with Robertson at left-back. Robertson’s addition, coupled with Souza staying put at the club, has done little to dispel the speculation surrounding Udogie’s future.
While the Lilywhites are reluctant to open the door for an exit, it remains to be seen if the Italian defender pushes to leave the club late in the transfer window if his concerns over lack of regular game time grows.
