Tottenham youngster is back on the radar of Turkish giants once again.
In recent weeks, speculation has mounted around Mathys Tel’s future at Tottenham.
The France Under-21 international joined Spurs on loan from Bayern Munich in the 2025 January transfer window and did enough for the club to then sign him permanently last summer. He endured an up-and-down first full season in North London, failing to cement a spot in the first XI under three different head coaches.
Roberto De Zerbi backed Mathys Tel as a player by handing him regular starts at the back end of last season, but the youngster does not appear convinced about the role he is going to have in the upcoming season. And with the Tottenham boss desperate for attacking reinforcements, the 21-year-old’s chances of regular minutes could be hampered.
Galatasaray seriously considering move for Mathys Tel
Galatasaray have been keen on signing Mathys Tel this summer. Reports from July suggested that the Frenchman’s agents had offered him to the Turkish club. Now, they are also sounding out that idea.
According to Turkish outlet Web Aslan, Galatasaray have ‘begun to seriously consider’ a move for Tel. The Turkish champions are expected to gauge Tottenham’s transfer demands for the winger before committing to a concrete plan.
The Sarcelles-born talent has featured prominently in the pre-season campaign. De Zerbi counts on him and wants the attacker to develop at White Hart Lane. With both Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert unlikely to return this year due to ACL injuries, Tel has a great opportunity to cement his spot on the left flank at the start of the new campaign. If Spurs fail to sign a left-winger, it would work in his favour to get more regular opportunities to showcase his talent.
It recently emerged that AS Roma making a move for the French forward is ‘minimal’ at this stage of the transfer window, which should boost Galatasaray’s chances of signing him. The Yellow Reds can offer the ex-Bayern Munich talent a chance to compete for silverware in the Super Lig as well as Champions League football, but it is unlikely Spurs would sanction an exit. Also, it is not known whether Tel would entertain the idea of a move to Turkey at this stage of his career.
Nonetheless, Okan Buruk’s club are seriously making plans to sign Tel.
