Tottenham are eyeing a move for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.
Tottenham Hotspur have been looking to refresh their attacking unit heading into the new season. The North Londoners have been moving quite aggressively this offseason, and it looks like they are working on several deals at the moment to provide Roberto De Zerbi with the tools to compete in the Premier League.
Spurs have been linked with several attackers; chief among them is Manchester City winger Savinho, who is keen to join De Zerbi’s forces. Recent reports suggest Tottenham might have to pay over £70m for the 22-year-old. Alongside the Brazilian, the Lilywhites have also been linked with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo.
Tottenham submit first bid for Cody Gakpo
Tottenham are holding concrete talks with Cody Gakpo and have already contacted Liverpool over the deal. There is no agreement as yet, though a move to Spurs represents a serious option for the Netherlands international.
According to Mounir Boualin from Soccernews on X, Tottenham have already submitted an opening offer of over £60 million for the Liverpool forward. The Reds’ stance on parting with Cody Gakpo remain in flux, with the Andoni Iraola-managed club giving no definitive indication over his future.
Simultaneously, Liverpool have been working on a big-money deal for Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola. There have been suggestions that the Merseyside club would only sanction a deal for Gakpo should they succeed in landing Barcola from PSG.
Spurs have been trying to put the wheels in motion to sign the 27-year-old, who is open to ending his three-and-a-half year stay at Anfield. The Dutch star is keen to move to Tottenham and become a part of De Zerbi’s revolution in North London. A move for Savinho would not affect their pursuit of Gakpo, as De Zerbi aims to make additions to enhance the quality of their attacking unit.
Gakpo joined Liverpool in January 2023 from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven and has grown into an important part of the team over the past few seasons. The winger’s productivity dipped last term, yet he remains a coveted commodity in the Premier League. He caught the eye at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with his national side, scoring three goals in four matches before Morocco knocked the Netherlands out on penalties in the round of 32.
The chance of the Netherlands International moving to Spurs appears to be quite high now. However, Liverpool are yet to agree on a deal with Tottenham. It remains to be seen whether the Reds accept Spurs’ opening £60 million+ bid for the versatile Gakpo.
