“I’d be surprised”- Ben Jacobs gives latest transfer update on Tottenham linked forward Victor Osimhen’s immediate future

Tottenham are hoping to strengthen their attack before the transfer window shuts shop in the coming weeks.

Tottenham have done well to show ambition in the transfer market this summer. The Lilywhites have spent £235m on new players during the first half of the window, outspending every other Premier League club during that time. So, a top-half finish in the Premier League is something that Roberto de Zerbi’s men should be aiming for in the coming months as the North Londoners look to kickstart a new era at N17 under the Italian tactician.

The club has managed to address its defensive and midfield issues in recent weeks by bringing in six new players. But the time has now come for Spurs to be decisive during the business end of the transfer window and sign attacking reinforcements before the new season commences. It is important that the Lilywhites bring in players who could make an instant impact in the final third of the pitch under Roberto de Zerbi.

With Richarlison still pondering his future at Hotspur Way and Dominic Solanke being linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, there is an urgent need to sign a prolific striker who could replace either player for the upcoming campaign. It is important that Spurs sign someone who could easily adapt to Roberto de Zerbi’s playing style, considering that the Italian tactician likes his striker to link up with the wide players.

Tottenham not prioritising a move for Victor Osimhen?

Tottenham are planning to restructure their attack for the upcoming campaign. Roberto de Zerbi is keen to add a new striker to his roster as the Italian tactician aims to kickstart a new era at N17. As a result, the Lilywhites have been heavily linked with a move for Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen in recent weeks. It was reported that the North Londoners also had an opening bid of £55m turned down for the Nigeria international, who is believed to be keen to test himself in the Premier League.

Ben Jacobs, however, has provided a transfer update on Victor Osimhen’s immediate future at Galatasaray as he continues to be linked with a summer move. Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Jacobs said,

“Victor Osimhen, I’d be surprised if Spurs sign him because the wage is really high. I know Tottenham have broken their wage structure, but I’m not aware of anything developing yet with Victor Osimhen either. I’m not saying rule out the craziness at the end of the window. But when I spoke to Galatasaray sources, they said there’s been no approach yet from anybody for Osimhen. And they still insist he’s very happy there.”

As per Jacobs, Spurs might not consider moving forward with Victor Osimhen as the prolific striker’s wage demands are through the roof. Contradicting previous reports, the reliable journalist also revealed that the Nigeria international is happy to stay at Galatasaray and that the Super Lig giants have not received any enquiries for his signature. A lot can develop during the final stages of the transfer window, but there is a high possibility that Osimhen decides to stay in Turkey for the time being.

On the other hand, reliable journalist Sacha Tavolieri (via X) has reported that Galatasaray would be open to selling Victor Osimhen if an offer worth €65m comes their way. Anything less than that would not be deemed enough for the Turkish giants. So, it all comes down to Tottenham’s willingness to pursue a deal for the prolific striker or look elsewhere in the market as they aim to bring in Dominic Solanke’s long-term replacement in the coming weeks.
