The Tottenham star is heading to Inter Milan.
Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence landed in Italy on Friday ahead of completing a move to Inter Milan.
The 26-year-old enjoyed an excellent World Cup campaign with England, but with Spurs’ first-choice right-back Pedro Porro signing a new deal in June and Andy Robertson brought in to provide cover and competition for Destiny Udogie, opportunities for Djed Spence were set to be limited in the upcoming 2026-27 campaign.
This opened the door for the England international to seek a new adventure, and he said ‘yes’ to the Inter Milan project. Negotiations between the clubs has been going on lately before an agreement was reached in the region of £30 million earlier this week. Tottenham became open to selling the defender after it was understood that head coach Roberto De Zerbi does not view the player as an essential part of his plans moving forward.

Now, famous podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham has given his verdict on Spence potentially joining Inter Milan. He has blasted Tottenham for accepting the Nerazzurri’s £30 million bid for the player, claiming that it is an “appalling fee”.
“That is just an appalling fee for Djed Spence,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“That’s such a low fee for a player that’s got four years on his contract, has come off the high of the World Cup, he’s a marketable player, he’s a player that kids and the younger generation seen him play for England in the summer would have got him on the back of the shirt.
“His ability on the football pitch, he can cover both flanks, he’s homegrown, it’s a ridiculously low fee for a player of what he covers and what he gives you, and it’ll cost us more to replace him.
“I am really disappointed with the fee, it had to be a minimum of £40-45 million pounds, not £30m, that is just abysmal, that means that we’ve signed him and made a £10m profit having taken him from a Championship prospect to a full England Premier League international. It’s madness.”
Spurs could have got more than £30m for Spence
Wenham’s frustrations are justified. After several loan spells away, Spence finally became an integral member of the Tottenham squad from the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. He hasn’t looked back since then, impressing with his technical ability, recovery pace, work rate and versatility.
Like the majority of his Tottenham teammates, Spence had an underwhelming previous campaign. However, he demonstrated his quality at the biggest stage of the game in North London earlier this summer, silencing his naysayers with solid performances for England at the World Cup. It significantly helped his stock rise, but the Spurs hierarchy have failed to capitalise on it.
In a highly inflated market where a £50m fee has become a bare minimum, Spurs agreeing a £30m deal with Inter for the talented and experienced Spence represents extremely poor business.
