Tottenham target could return to La Liga.
Tottenham transfer target Marcus Rashford’s search for a permanent home away from Manchester United has taken another turn, with TEAMtalk reporting that Barcelona now have an opportunity to sign him again after his season-long loan at the Catalans ended without the Spanish club triggering their €30m purchase option. What is notable, and worth being straightforward about, is that Tottenham’s own interest appears to have gone nowhere.
Intermediaries spent the summer trying to place Rashford at Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Roma and Napoli, and none of those conversations produced anything concrete.
He is currently back at Old Trafford, left out of Manchester United’s pre-season squad for their trip to Sweden and their friendly against Atletico Madrid, with his long-term future still genuinely unresolved.
The La Liga question is a fair one to raise given Rashford’s own comments about his time in Spain, but it is worth being careful about overstating where things actually stand.

That gap between what Rashford has said he wants and what is actually being offered captures his situation reasonably well right now.
His stock has fallen a long way from the £50m Manchester United were hoping for as recently as March, with a release clause of around £40m having since expired and Tottenham exploring a fee in the €30m to €46m range.
For Tottenham, the practical takeaway is simpler than the headlines suggest. This one has cooled rather than progressed, and with De Zerbi’s attacking priorities clearly sitting with Gakpo, Savinho and reportedly Osimhen, Rashford looks more like a name that was floated and quietly dropped than a deal genuinely still in motion.
For a player who spent last season delivering genuinely good numbers on loan, that drop in asking price and lack of concrete suitors says as much about the complications around his wages and Manchester United’s reluctance to simply give him away as it does about his ability.
Since the end of last season, Barcelona’s need for attacking reinforcements has arguably grown. Aside from Rashford returning to England, Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres have both left, while Roony Bardghji has been ruled out for the season with injury. If Barcelona succeed in getting Julian Alvarez from Tottenham’s Spanish branch, the possibility of Rashford moving to Spurs goes just a bit up. But right now, he remains fully integrated into Michael Carrick’s first-team squad at United, and we have to see what happens in this saga.
