Tottenham have been dealt a big blow in their pursuit of former star.
Tottenham Hotspur have lacked a true marquee goalscorer since Harry Kane’s departure in 2024. Ever since the England international left the club to join Bayern Munich, Spurs have rotated various attacking options without fully replicating the consistency in the goalscoring department that defined their success over the past decade.
Dominic Solanke has failed to justify his £65 million price tag since he made the switch from Bournemouth in 2023 in a bid to fill the void left by Harry Kane. The 28-year-old spent the majority of the last campaign on the sidelines and had minimal impact when fit. Richarlison was the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions, but history says he cannot be relied upon to stay fit and deliver the goods consistently.
This has resulted in Roberto De Zerbi searching for an elite striker to lead his team’s attack and score goals at regularity, and links with Bayern Munich star Harry Kane has naturally emerged.
Harry Kane rules out a return to the Premier League amid Tottenham interest
Unfortunately, Kane is set to commit his long-term future to Bayern Munich by penning a new deal, effectively pouring cold water on rumours of a sensational return to Tottenham. He has entered the final 12 months of his existing contract, but is set to begin discussing fresh terms with the Bundesliga champions.
The 33-year-old has been in sensational form for club and country since moving to Munich, and last season hit a staggering total of 73 goals. He netted six goals in seven appearances in this summer’s World Cup, finishing behind Jude Bellingham’s seven strikes.
After receiving the European Golden Shoe for finishing as the leading scorer across Europe’s domestic leagues on Wednesday, the England captain stressed how settled he feels at Bayern. The English star says “the itch isn’t there as much anymore” to one day return to his homeland from Germany and surpass Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record.
“When I first left [Spurs in 2023], for sure it was something that I thought I’d definitely be coming back. That itch isn’t there as much anymore,” Kane told Four Four Two magazine (h/t ESPN FC).
“I’m extremely happy here in Munich. It’s opened my eyes to a totally different world of football outside of England. It’s made me appreciate European football even more. With the team we have here, with the manager. My family are really settled here. It’s just about being in the best place possible.
“I never say never but, for now, I’m concentrating on Bayern Munich, and we’ll see what the future holds.”
Tottenham eye double deal for Manchester City forwards
With every passing day, a sensational return to Tottenham for Kane looks a distant dream for our fans. He has revealed that a return to the Premier League is no longer a major priority and is content with life in the German capital. The former Spurs star also indicated that he remains fully aligned with Bayern’s ambitions under Vincent Kompany.
Elsewhere, reputed journalist David Ornstein dropped a “bomba” on Wednesday, suggesting that the Lilywhites are advancing on a double deal for Manchester City attackers Savinho and Omar Marmoush. While there is no certainty of a deal, Man City are open to letting the pair leave for the right price.
Spurs have been aggressive in the summer transfer window ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge, and signing both Savinho and Marmoush from City would take their spending beyond £370million.
